There are clear similarities between Nausicaä and Erin as protagonists. They're young girls swept up in dramatic events partly against their will. Gentle but emotionally strong, they without fail make an impression on the people they come across. Both of them also seem entranced rather than frightened by the colossal creatures that others dread...

The heroines of these anime are very much the same with their caring and considerate personality towards everyone and everything. They have a ways with plants and people with their charisma, enemy or not, and an even more unique bond with animals. Beasts/creatures are also used in fights in both anime. They produce similar vibes/animations.

In so many ways, these two shows share similar themes and story telling style. The themes of animal rights, war, nihilism, tragedy and coming of age is depicted very similarly in both series. The main character has strong moral ethics and strives to find a balance in an imperfect world. Through their journey, the main character undergoes tremendous personal development. Very emotionally touching. The demographic if for young children, but adults will no doubt enjoy it too. Kemono no Souja Erin has a lot of flashbacks and feels quite slow at times, so you might have to be a bit patient.

Simple anime that yet will treat of mature theme (war, animal abuse etc...) better than many mature that try to act as if. Erin looked like Nausicaa a lot after she grew up. Beautiful visual in both anime, no need to present Miyazaki, as for Kemono Souja Erin, the art somewhat looks like a tale and used a lot of pastel.
