That annoying protagonist; that one which always gets on your nerves. That selfish little brat that can't seem to think about anyone other than himself. You can't wait for him to mature or to even get out of the picture... which makes his consequent realistic character development and progression all the more gripping and striking. The fantasy world setting and the friends that help help both Hikari and Luke to mature into hugely likeable characters are similar, but the growth itself is the most wonderful shared development to behold.
TL:DR: Highly annoying protagonists slowly mature into absolutely lovable characters (and similar feel throughout). Fantasy setting.
