Both anime are based on typical 80's shounen manga, full of badass characters and exaggerated manliness. Both series also have several characters and techniques named after heavy metal and rock bands/musicians, like Black Sabbath, Beatles, Metallica and Yes.
Both of these anime are adapted from manga written in the late 80's and use many tropes from shounen of that era in an exaggerated and parodying way, which means neither of these anime is to be taken 100% seriously. They also feature a lot of GAR action and violence, and pay homage to several rock and metal bands and singers.
