These two animes are very much alike because of the sport and romance involved. The realization of their individual hidden talent and the lead up to finding it is also very similar as the initial intention was to catch the attention of their beloved. Overdrive is a sport romance but the sport part of the anime pretty much dominates the storyline, in contrast, Suzuka is based on the affection of the main character (Akitsuki Yamato) towards Asahina Suzuka. Both series has the sports theme (although involving different sport) as one of the major themes.
The main protagonist in both series has a crush on the main heroine and joins a club/team to prove themselves. However as episodes progresses, both the main characters in the series realizes their future with the sport.
In both series, the main female protagonist is sort of a tomboy and denies liking the guy. Yet as the episodes progresses, they gradually warm themselves up to the protagonist. There is comedy, drama, and romance present in both series. Both series also contain other characters/competitors in the sports as the story moves along.
