Both of these series deal with the concept of Human life and essentially how much it's worth. They both are commentaries on how people devalue human life.
Both animes have quite a cruel, ruthless feeling of life being ultimately unfair. Both are made with a rather cold, subtle irony. In both animes the main characters evolve from an ordinary school student to a kind of 'death god'. Also, the plot is extremely gripping in both of them.
The mystery and suspense are pretty similar, though the only thing is is that Gantz has more action in it.

1. Both Gantz and the protagonist, Light Yagami, manipulates the lives of human beings; somewhat God-like.
2. Insane characters.
3. Bloodshed and violence are plentiful.
4. Resembles a lot of the loathsomeness of human nature.
5. The realistic feeling.
6. Both are psychologically thrilling.
