Blonde little girl, two ponytails and an over-dramatic life. Surely Candy Candy was a 70's iconic anime, and Sandybell may be inspired by it. Both are produced by Toei animation only 2 years between, Sandybell is an original story (candy candy was manga first) shorter but not less dramatic than candy candy. Both girls start their stories at childhood and something tragic happens, and then they grow to follow their dreams and love...maybe. Surely a classic anime to watch with your mom.
I grew up with both Candy Candy and Sandybell, they do share some similarities and more importantly to me the same spirit. The girls are both tomboys on a journey which leads them to love, tragedy and growth. If you loved Candy and you miss the chaos but could do with less anger (assuming Eliza and Neil drive you insane), you´ll love Sandybell as well.
