In terms of setting, art, story, genre etc. these shows share next to nothing.
Still, both shows are essentially about being, or becoming, decent people, children and adults alike.
Mrs Jo and her husband are the kind teachers, carefully standing in the back most of the time, guiding their pupils into becoming successful and believing in them. "Cooking Papa" Mr. Arawai does the same thing for his family and coworkers. Both shows also have some sad episodes, but also a very healthy portion of humor.
