The two main protagonists are also strong female protagonists facing life and growing up. The tone for both series is often light hearted, rarely if ever straying from this, but both are considered by quite a few beloved classics.

Both anime involve magic in a somewhat realistic setting.
Sakura and Kiki experience a lot of things through the story that make them growing up and accept their role.
It's like a growing up of age story, and in both anime the main character learn how to take their responsabilities and to become more adult.
Also there's a romance that is involved in both anime.
There's a sweet, cute and kind of childish atmosphere in both anime.
Kiki and Sakura are adorable characters who are very kind and sensitive.
