Both are directed by Mitsuo Iso, with Dennou coil being his first and Orbital children his 2nd work.
-Both feature children characters interacting with future technology, with AR and VR in Dennou Coil and AI and Space travel in Orbital children.
-Orbital children have some Dennou Coil references such as "poop" and one of the children using the same AR glasses that was featured in Dennou Coil. Some of the mystic lines seen in Orbital children resembles a lot of those lines seen in Dennou Coil as well.

Both series feature children in a highly advanced future where the barriers between real life and augmented reality have been blurred and they get enrolled in the middle of life threatening situations where said technology heavily gets to lean towards the metaphysical. They also share director, scriptwriter and animation director, making their similarities translate to its visuals, writing style, themes and vision of the future.
