Group of kids forced to pilot a mecha to fight some unconventional enemy, the enemy in both anime holds darker secret behind them.
Both are a darker take on the mecha genre involving kids who are forced to make very difficult decisions and are stuck in a world revolving around death and suffering.
Both have psychological, mecha, sci-fi elements. The story revolves around the characters or group of friends fighting the enemies and taking tough decisions. Bokurano is more mature while M3 focuses on bonds.
