Space and Time, two abstracts that can't be felt or touch. In this series the elderly man practically goes back in time in term of his memories. As his is remembering all the joyful memories, it can be said that time separated him from him family slowly.
While in 5 Centimeter per Second, Akari and Takaki are slowly separated by space, with their constant routine of moving from town to town. Slowly growing farther and farther apart from each other, it made it harder for them to meet each other face to face.

Tsumiki no Ie and Byousoku 5 Centimeter are relatively simple anime that are built around the same common theme: relationships with other people. They are also both short to watch (Tsumiki no Ie is not even 20 minutes) and are easy to follow even for the most casual watcher. Furthermore, the main characters in both series are relatable to some degree (i.e. they aren't anime archetypes). Definitely would recommend watching both if you have the time.
