Both shows try to make comedy out of putting vulnerable girls with severe social anxiety into uncomfortable situations adding up to outright abuse. There is no clever writing, there is no character arc to vindicate the protagonists and assert their self-worth—there is only unenjoyable cringe.
This site feature is called a "recommendation" but by no means would I recommend either of these appalling shows. Go watch Welcome to the NHK.
Hurray! :D Another parody show mocking the struggles of vulnerable young girls suffering from severe social anxiety in the most patronising and cringe-worthy way possible! Yay! :D :D :D
- Attempts at social commentary
- Attempts at humour
- Female protagonists suffering from severe social anxiety
WataMote is at least self-aware in its character-based cringe gags; Kuma Miko does it unintentionally whilst vilifying the abuse (both mental and physical) that protag suffers at the hand of people she trusts as 'cute' and 'moe'.
Both have a girl with a serious challenge to integrate into society , which leads to the most uncomfortable situations , but she is determined to change .
