It may seem a little off to recommend the two. But beyond backgrounds and looking at each as a standalone product. Princess Mononoke and AOT FS are very similar in what can be allocated to political ideologies, and the actions individuals feel the need to take, taking that into account and questioning it as such.
With both using a fictional powerhouse within, Princess Mononoke adds on with imperialism, AOT FS adds on with almost fascist ideas. They both also have that opposition that will go full force to bring down these powers, usually with some kind of supernatural power on their side.
