Both shows have a primarily female cast. The main characters are forced (more-so in Red Garden) to fight beasts/witches, and if they give up they die. Characters don't fully understand the situation they're in for most of the series. They're both pretty dark series, and there are definitely some more similarities.
Anime-original stories about teenage girls forced into a difficult fight against dark forces, with unique visuals and compelling character arcs. Madoka is more of a cosmic horror story that focuses on the girls' individual struggles against despair and seemingly unbeatable foes, whereas Red Garden is more of a gothic horror story that focuses on the deterioration of the girls' social lives and the bonds they form with each other. Both have loose sequels (Rebellion & Dead Girls) that explore the consequences of their respective series' endings in ways that are both bonkers and brilliant.
Both of these series are darker twists on the Magical Girl trope. In PMMM the main characters become magical girls in after in exchange for a wish, but find out being a magical girl isn't all sparkles&frills. While in Red Garden the girls find out that they were brought back to life (with new powers) to fight on one side of a feud that's been going on for many years. The main characters fight in the hope that once it's over they can go back to their lives.
PMMM has more of a focus on the "magical" part though in RG their powers
