Okay, I 've just watch this movie and first of all, I want to clarify something: This is not telling exactly the same story as the anime, this is actually a continuation of "The end of Evangelion". I suppose that you already watched that movie...if not...the watch it xD
Remember that in the end of that movie, Rei asked Shinji if he wanted to restart everything again even though the humanity would make the same mistake twice and he said yes, so this is a continuation, thats why some of the scenes and stuff are different.
