Omyoji: An anime where you care more about the side characters than you ever will for its actual main characters.

Characters—1/3: I fail to understand how the story can move your heart with such endearing side characters with tragic stories while simultaneously completely cool such feelings for its actual MCs. I know that their backstories will be revealed later but it's episode 5 and I get annoyed when I see the main characters on screen, and if that's something a viewer feels then surely you're doing something wrong. Especially the flute guy. He has the personality of a wet towel. He is portrayed as the "empathetic ... kind guy" but is he truly when fails to grasp the Omyoji guy's personality? Without being explained, enough context clues have been shown that he is not as unfeeling as he likes to pretend. Explicitly saying "I'm lonely", shouldn't be enough to know that he does have emotions. To be able to sympathize and willing to help lecherous old creeps but not Seimei. Ha! Truly an empathetic kind guy. I'd give it zero but I quite like the Onis, their stories are heartwarming and beautifully sad.

Characters are a 1/3 - None of them are annoying but no one notable either. Aside from her love for her father and magical devices and that she's kind, is there anything notable about her? Interesting? Not really. This is what is expected from any anime that at most only has 12 episodes in a season. With so little time, you're never going to get fully fleshed-out characters you can truly feel for. This applies to the FL as well as the ML. Show, don't tell. That's the rule in films and animation. Glimpses of their pain are not enough. You have to immerse your ... audience, a 10-second flashback or a 5-second scene of being ogled at isn't sufficient enough for the audience to connect to the characters. Being told "My friendships keep failing because I'm too handsome" will never be as impactful as a scene where we can SEE his friendships failing or being ostracized for his looks.

The story is a 1/3 - I have said in previous reviews I like it when it's Romance & Plot, not Romance = Plot but for this anime? There isn't even romance so what was the point? Don't get me wrong, I like how it's a slow-burn romance where it isn't love at first sight but there was no progress in the magical devices department and the story with her father was about for only four episodes or so. There is no climax. 1 season, sure it's just the beginning of the story but it's still a mini-story on its own and every story has a beginning, climax, and end. Here, it's just beginning. It feels like you got half of the episodes of a full season one then never got the other half.

Art is a 1/3 - Hey at least the ML is hot (in the panels when the art isn't wonky)

TLDR: I don’t hate myself enough to continue watching such mediocre brain-rotting anime with uninspired characters.

Characters are 0/3 - FL is tolerable. The prince is like a shell you see on the beach, pretty on the outside but hollow on the inside and no amount of cliche backstory can make him even as half as interesting as stale bread. In Shojo mangas, you can sometimes just feel when an ML is made for the FL. Now, you can argue and say that technically all MLs are made for the FLs but no, there are MLs out there who are distinct and have a life, ... personality, and dreams outside the FL. Sadly, this is not one of those MLs.

The story is a 0/3 - I do love the medical stuff and if they scratched the romance and focused on that I wouldn't dislike this anime so since the medical scenes are the only redeeming quality of the show. Her relationship with her family; the focus on “being a doctor” arc, while I do love the moments, does sacrifice interactions and moments with family that can truly flesh out their connection. Also, the romance makes me want the scalpel to suddenly come alive and sweep her off her feet. She has more chemistry with the medical equipment than the prince.

Art is a 0/3- The art is like eating Hunts baked beans. You just scrunch your face in disgust every time you take a spoonful.

It is so bad I want to give it a zero but that's not possible, so I give it a one.

The fact I didn’t drop it halfway through means it wasn’t terrible and was enough for my squirrel-like attention span and surprisingly, there were some moments where I chuckled. Nothing to write home about. It’s just an anime to watch to fill the time and is moderately satisfying.

The art is a 1/3. The art style is pedestrian. Not nice enough to get anything higher than that.

Characters are a 1/3. Honestly, I don't even like any of the characters but none of them are annoying hence, the score.

The story is also a 1/3. It's normal. Nothing exciting and if you read about 10 ... Shonen manga/hwa/hua you'd understand the gist of the story by the first episode.

I feel like I’m very forgiving with the “I’m so strong but I don’t know” trope on this anime because well, no one explains it clearly to him. He is inexperienced and doesn’t know much about anything and the other characters think the opposite because he’s an “expert” so we have this situation where no one explains a single thing. It’s never him having mental gymnastics to outright be in denial of everything. I came in expecting an average and I got an average. I recommend it when just want to watch something you can turn off your brain with

This doesn't even deserve a review written with any amount of effort so here is a half-assed review for a half-ass anime.

Since the title has “Drugstore” in its title. I was hoping at least the medicine/potion-making would have a significant part in every episode but instead, you get a 10-second montage that repeats every episode. I dropped it since I didn’t want to waste my night watching trash anime with characters acting like 4-year-old anime children. The good things about this anime are the art and the MC is not a pervert having a romance with the 4-year-old children but that’s about it. Everything ... else is a dumpster fire.

This anime can be described in one word: fluff. Now, if that's what you're looking for, great! If it's not then, you're just like me<3

This is a case of personal taste and my problem with most romance anime. I like it when the romance happens alongside the plot and not when the romance IS the plot. Romance & Plot = Yay! Romance = Plot -> Boring. The characters themselves are not enough for me to continue watching unlike Kaoru Hana wa Rin to Saku which is a Romance = Plot type of manga BUT the characters are interesting, fleshed out, and written extremely well, so ... much so that I continue to read the manga even when as previously stated not a huge fan of such plots. Objectively, it should score higher but this is MY review so it's going to be subjective.

Animation is a 1.5/3. The art style is pretty and the movements aren't terrible but it's not smooth enough to be a 2.

Characters are a 1/3. The side characters are meh. The main characters are cliched tropes. Uninspired and ordinary.

Story 0/3. By virtue of me dropping the anime, it automatically gets a zero.

For personal taste 0/1.
