Have you ever thought to yourself, "Man, I love The Count of Monte Cristo, but I wish it were like 100 pages long and all the characters were high school girls"? If so, Alisa of the Silver Hair is the manga for you! It's an over-the-top revenge drama that cribs more than a few of its plot beats from that novel: the main character is betrayed by those she thought she could trust and spends years imprisoned, with an elderly mentor who teaches her the skills she will eventually use to take her revenge. There's a simple recipe for quick and easy pathos: take a group of cute young children, put them in a dangerous situation, and then have them be made to do things that no child should ever have to do (usually killing people). There are series that take this formula and make it something more than cheap emotional manipulation; that really make a compelling story out of it; that may even be worth watching or reading for people who are a bit squeamish about bad things happening to children.

"Anonymous" is not one of those series. It's ultimately very shallow; it's got no real point beyond "look ...

Mixed Feelings
This movie is not, technically, a very good movie. The art's pretty decent -- one can tell they had a higher budget for this movie than for the TV series -- the soundtrack's fine but not outstanding, the characterization is about what you'd expect for a Prince of Tennis movie (i.e. minimal), and the plot is frankly ridiculous.

In fact, this movie is ridiculous and over-the-top in a number of ways, and that's exactly what's so great about it. It takes the "junior high school tennis is serious and manly!" theme of the TV series and turns it up to eleven in ways that deny logic, ...
