Both anime are about their astronomy clubs. And both are romance, school anime; although i think Sora is more slice of life.

While each show is quite different, having different settings and different character types, they both give off very similar feelings. The type of jokes and overall pace gives off a similar atmosphere that is different from this genre of slice of life, just a group of girls being cute that has been popular for a while now. If you liked one show, you should definitely check out the other.

Both have characters with embarrassing secrets from their past that they are trying to hide.

Both shows are about the future of the world and the different races that interact with humans. Shinseki yori is darker, but they both are about with dealing with a new intellectual race. Also, while both are set in the future, neither have high technology and actually have even reverted back a bit. Both are pretty imaginative and I highly recommend them both to anyone looking for something new and refreshing.
