I don't understand why this show is so popular. Sure, I got some good laughs out of it, but that's about it. Probably the first anime I would call a "waste of my time". But hey. That doesn't mean that other people aren't allowed to like it. But I'm here to warn you that unless you are looking for a somewhat ecchi comedy that completely focuses on comedy, then you need to find another anime.
Plot: 5
Plot? What plot? You mean 25 episodes of fillers that are only connected by the fact that they share a group of characters, and then a 3 episode
...
OVA arc that they label as a "sequel"? Cause yeah, that's what Love Hina is. Fillers. Don't get me wrong, each episode had it's own quirk, allowing the series to keep that "it's funny cause it's random" kind of feel. From an army of Mecha-turtles to Arabian princes to a living doll to a summer festival, this show never ceased to surprise me. But that doesn't make up for the fact that the show had no real plot. So I had to give a 5 here.
Art: 7
I'm still no art connoisseur, so as far as I can tell, the graphics are on par with other series that came out in the same time period. So no complaints from me here.
Sound: 8
Even though I disliked the show overall, the opening theme remains in my top 5. It is unnaturally catchy and upbeat, and for the first time in a long time, I didn't skip the opening. NOT EVEN ONCE did I skip the opening. As for the ending song, it was catchy in a different way. In a somber, guitar riff kind of way. And I couldn't find anything wrong with the music throughout the anime. So kudos on the sound, if nothing else.
P.S. DO NOT WATCH THE ENGLISH DUB! It's just indescribably bad.
Characters: 7
A diverse cast of characters, if I do say so myself. Living in Hinata Apartments, there's our main character, Keitaro, a loser among losers; our main heroine, Naru, a slightly hot-headed girl who didn't hesitate to beat the crap out of Keitaro at any and every possible opportunity; there's Su, an inventor who plays a big role in the "randomness" of the series; there's Kitsune, who's only trait throughout the show is her love of booze; there's Motoko, the strict swordswoman; and there's Shinobu, a character with absolutely no personality. Other characters include Kentaro, who I credit for being the character that prevented me from dropping this anime; then there's Seta, an archeologist who plays a pretty large role in the "randomness" of the series; there's Sarah, Seta's "daughter", and finally there's Mutsumi, who plays the role of secondary love interest, next to Naru.
Now this sounds like a pretty good set of characters, right? A lot of room for development to make for an interesting anime, right? WRONG! As I mentioned in my opening paragraph, this anime focused completely on comedy, so every character in the series is the same from start to finish, with small exceptions here and there(like Motoko doesn't hate Keitaro come the end of the show). As diverse of a cast as it was, I can't give a group of 2D characters anything higher than a 7.
Enjoyment: 5
For a show completely focused on comedy, the comedy wasn't terrific. I chuckled at least once every episode, but that's not enough to make me want to watch the next episode, especially when there's no plot to drive me forward. So a 5 on the enjoyment.
Overall: 6
Ehh, the show wasn't terrible. A catchy opening theme. A solid slew of characters, with some of the funnier supporting characters I've seen. And Love Hina Again wraps up the "romance" the show had rather nicely. If you're looking for some laughs and a barrage of interesting characters, give Love Hina a shot. Just don't expect a plot.
(This is only my third review, so feedback, positive or negative, is welcome!)

Wow. Just... Wow. I don't really know where to start with this one. Imagine an anime that was the perfect blend of military action, drama, and romance, combined with a superb cast of characters, and you have Senjou no Valkyria in a nutshell.
Story: 8
Art: 8
Sound:8
Character: 10
Enjoyment: 10
Overall: 9
Gah. I really like the story, but it is a hard one to explain. So refer to the synopsis. It's not very original, but the way it balances action, drama, and romance sets it apart from other anime.
Note: It doesn't really say so on this website,
...
but the second half of this anime does take on a sci-fi/fantasy twist. This twist made the story unique, but also created a lot of questions that don't exactly get answered. Despite this, the story wraps itself up nicely, with a definitive ending.
One thing that kinda irritated me was the enemy's ability to fire one last bullet before dying. It happens CONSTANTLY throughout the series. Enemy gets shot, assumed dead, enemy isn't dead, enemy shoots one last bullet, bullet hits friendly, enemy gets shot again. Besides this one minor flaw, the story is great.
The anime was created in 2009, so the visuals are crisp. Not much else to say about the art.
The OPs were catchy in their own way. The ED for the first half was an upbeat autotuned song, matching the first half of the anime's carefree nature. On the other hand, the ED for the second half was melancholic and dramatic, matching the second half of the anime's... well... melancholic and dramatic nature. So no complaints.
The characters are definitely the highlight of this anime. The main character, Welkin, is as unique as they get. He's just one of those awkward characters that you can't avoid cheering on.
Alicia, the main heroine, is fairly basic. Mean towards Welkin from the start, but slowly starts to understand him, ends up falling in love with him, etc, etc.
Isara, Welkin's adopted sister, is a Darcsen, a race of people who are frowned upon. Welkin tries to protect Isara from the hate, since they are each others only family. She is another char you can't help but love.
Faldio, Welkin's best friend. His role changes multiple times throughout the series, for good and for bad.
Then there is the rest of the members from Squad 7(including, but not limited to, a flamboyant guy, a bear of a guy, an all-work-no-play woman, a priss of a girl, and teenage brothers) all of which play a role in the series, whether you remember their names or not.
Last but not least, a handful of bad guys. There's Maximilian, the main bad guy, and all he wants is power and he'll stop at nothing to achieve it blah blah blah. He's just someone who is really easy to hate. Then there's Selvaria, his closest partner. Her loyalty to him throughout the series is staggering. Then there's Jaeger, a ladies man who I actually liked throughout the show, since he never really felt like a bad guy. Lastly, there's Gregor, the cold blooded, merciless commander. Another easy person to hate.
What makes this cast so great is how real they feel. So real that some episodes were a pain to watch, because of what our main 4 characters were going through. And yes, one manly tear was shed during this show. Just one. But it was when one of the characters died. And it was flippin' devastating.
As far as enjoyment goes, I give it a 10. I feel obligated to give it a 10 here, since I started the show at 12:30am and finished it at 11:00am. Yes. I watched the entire show in one setting, skipping sleep in the process. I just couldn't pull myself away from the show.
Overall is a 9. I definitely recommend this show to anyone who appreciates military action, drama, and romance.

Let me just explain that when I picked up this anime, I had just finished watching AnoHana, and was hoping for a light-hearted romance/comedy/harem to let my brain settle before delving into another intense anime. But Shuffle! was NOT as easy-going as I was expecting. So although this anime was good, it was not what I was expecting, and therefore I may be a tad bias in my review.
Story: 7
As far as the story goes, I liked the idea of Gods, Demons and Humans all living together. I'm a fan of the comedy/romance/drama/harem genre. And I like how they tie magic into the whole
...
series. So why am I only giving the story a 7?
Let me try to explain my thinking with a simple episode breakdown:
Episodes 1-12ish: Character building episodes. Really basic. A simple problem each episode that is resolved by the end of the episode, and reveals bits and pieces of each characters personality. Although these episodes are essential for the rest of the anime, they do tend to drag on a little. So I wasn't a big fan of that. NOTE: The atmosphere in these episodes are light and romantic, standard for the genre.
Episodes 13ish-16ish: An arch is given that takes all attention off of the main plot(Rin's love life) and focuses on one character(Primula, who is not fighting for Rin's affection). Although the arch wasn't bad, it was a complete and sudden change of atmosphere, from light and romantic to dramatic and magical. This again isn't a bad thing, it's just not what I was expecting from the show. ANOTHER NOTE: Throughout this point, the anime did a really good job of keeping me guessing as far as who Rin would choose, which is surprising. In this kind of anime, it is usually painfully obvious which girl the main character is going to end up with. But in Shuffle!, i thought I had it narrowed down to one of two girls, but I was completely wrong. Which is a big plus for this anime.
Episodes 17ish-24ish: ALL. HELL. BREAKS. LOOSE. An obsessive girl with the inability to move on + a guy who is ready to move on + a whole lot of tears + one character being hospitalized + a late game suicide attempt + somehow a happy ending = My brain falling apart and me repeatedly asking "what the hell is going on here?" The anime plunges into emotions, drama, and painful flashbacks at a pace that left my head spinning. Again, I love emotion-filled romance/drama animes(like AnoHana), but I had JUST finished AnoHana before watching Shuffle!, so these episodes were NOT what I was expecting/hoping for from this anime.
Overall, the story didn't have any major holes in it, and it all wrapped up nicely without leaving me feeling overly rushed. Had I been expecting the ending to be so... dark... then I would have gladly given the story a 9, but whereas I was hoping for a lighter watch, I only gave it a 7.
Art: 8
As far as I know, the anime had pretty good art for an anime created in 2006. The series did go a tad overboard with fan service, but I'm a 17 year old guy, so I'm not complaining.
Sound: 8
Again, as far as I know, the sound effects were pretty good for an anime created in 2006. The opening song was rather catchy, and the end song was nothing spectacular, so an 8 here seems fair.
Characters: 8
This show had a terrific cast of characters. Each girl had their own unique background story, so even though each fell into one cliché or another, they still felt fresh. Primula was one of those characters that won't be forgotten easily, just because of how adorable she is.
I did have one big problem with this anime though; Rin, the male lead. It was downright annoying how 99% of the people around him would do ANYTHING to get closer to him. It was just obnoxious. It's impossible to put into words how much I detest Rin. BUT, aside from my strong hatred of Rin, all of the other characters bring something cute/unique/hilarious to the table, so I give it an 8.
Enjoyment: 7
Again, my enjoyment is heavily affected by how different the show was from what I expected. But I still enjoyed the show quite a bit, so a 7 seems fair enough.
Overall: 8
This show has a little something for everyone; whether it be the romance, comedy, drama, school life, magic, or fan service, you name it, this anime has it. I definitely recommend this anime to anyone who is willing to deal with an annoying male lead in exchange for a pretty darn good romance/comedy/harem/drama/school life anime.
P.S. This is my first review, so if you have ANY feedback(good or bad) just send me an email/message/whatever, and I will try to make my next review better. :)
