Beck's Mongolian Chop Squad is very reminiscent of FLCL without the over the top wacky and zany antics. It's very much a coming of age story, interspersed with intense aspirational dilemmas and frustrating bitter-sweet romances. The main cast of the 5 band members are fairly flushed out, however much more attentions is given to Koyuki, Ryusuke and Maho, who are introduced earlier than the others. Needless to say the supporting cast does not get significant attentions and their inclusion can at times feel unnecessary and even random. Still, the main characters are extremely compelling and enjoyable to watch because of their authenticity, and the story
