TERRA FORMARS is about a crew of 100 humans fighting against hordes of humanoid cockroaches on Mars. Nobody is safe, anything can happen, deaths come out of the blue and characters one thought safe are ripped to shreds in a gory fashion.
The unpredictability and the crass, almost vulgar, presentation of the violence makes the cockroaches legitimately horrifying as well as hateable.
Seeing the roaches get squashed then feels satisfying, almost like squashing cockroaches in your own home.
As for the shortcomings, one of the animes biggest problems is the annoying pacing. All the time fights that are interrupted by flashbacks or scenes cutting back to earth,
