"If there is such a thing as god of fate, he must be quite a troll"
quote of the year!
Tsuki ga Kirei is a love story too pure for the 21st century. It's like the anime that will make you want to get back with the ex girlfriend that you never had. It's a very sweet, innocent tale of two innocent kids from two very different worlds who cross paths and fall in love. The anime depicts their relationship when it's at a very premature stage, They don't know what to do or expect and it makes you curious in what direction they will
...
go. It focuses on their trails and tribulations of trying to overcoming peer pressure, family pressure and focusing on one's ambition.
This is an anime original so i didn't know what to expect when I started this and it was quite underrated during the start of spring but I'm glad it became a little more popular, it gained quite a momentum towards the end and I hope it continues to be more successful.
The two main characters are really great, they are very relatable, even if you have never been in a relationship (I know i haven't been in one) they really resonate with you. They are portrayed as realistic as possible and they have moments where, you know, being the main character of the show didn't help them, which was quite refreshing honestly. This whole anime is a beautiful struggle and it's great to watch them grow and develop from being shy introverted characters to making some bold decisions. It just makes you wanna root for them.
The animation was pretty good, the art was simple but effective, it set a tone that fit well with the location and the atmosphere of the anime. It feels very nostalgic. The music is the real deal though, the songs are so good and the soundtrack compliments the romantic vibe so well you might even skip a beat. Oh! and I would be stupid to leave out the after credit monologues in every episodes, that alone makes this show worth watching!
But I can see some people who might find this anime to be boring, it's quite slow and the cellphone LINE conversations that they often have throughout the show might have people rolling their eyes. I didn't really have a big problem with it but I can see people calling this out, if you're not a fan of romance in general and find it to be a corny genre, I can't guarantee that this will change your mind. The problem I had with this show are the side characters, some of their behavior is just cliché and annoying. None of them are explored and they lack screen time, personally to me they come off as very one dimensional.
But yeah, Overall it was a very good anime and I really enjoyed it. It has a lot of elements that make it truly worthwhile. If you're a fan of the romance genre, this is an anime that you cannot miss.

This show was like a try not to cringe challenge for me. It did start off in a very sincere way in it's narration. It felt like it wanted to be taken seriously, and it could have been better. An MC with a backstory of trying to move on from his mother's passing by working hard to become a professional author, it was all good. But very soon it went downhill, forming a cliché of an harem with some exhausting characters, an awkward sibling relationship and some frustrating storytelling.
It has very few moments that might make you laugh or feel like there was some thought
...
put into it but overall Eromanga sensei is a very uninspired slice of life. Forcing a lot of bad comedy and over-saturating the viewer with some annoying cuteness and fanservice. When a show does that you can tell how lazy the script is and it's terrible attempt to try and be a commercial success. Usually I don't care to talk about a show like this in this manner, but like I said earlier, Eromanga sensei is different because it actually wants to be taken seriously, and A-1 Pictures is a studio that I have a lot of respect for.
But I gotta talk about the cringe in this anime, It was just too much and too bad. There were times when i needed to pause and take my time to recover from the cringe I was hit with. A lot of the character's actions and movements were cringy, The awkward comedy and dialogues were cringy, even the voice acting made me cringe sometimes, especially Sagiri's. Her forced squeaky voice acting to make it seem cute had me cringing in all types of ways.
The animation was pretty solid, This was a very colorful and detailed anime, expect no less from A-1 pictures, solid and consistent from start to finish. The music was pretty meh though. The OP and ED were okayish and the soundtracks were nothing special.
Honestly, for anyone, you are not really missing out on anything if you don't watch this show and we can do without a second season.

Before this season was about to air, Wit studio released a letter of apology, not for being 4 years late or for less episodes, but for making an anime so good that it'd drive you crazy, and to an extent, they did just that.
The season quickly reintroduced the setting and what makes it so fun and scary. While season 1 took it's time building a world and setting up interesting reveals, season 2 capitalizes on it and delves deeper into the plot, exploring some interesting side characters and spontaneously teasing some future reveals which helps build the story for future arcs.
I've praised this
...
a thousand times in my life but the animation and music are god tier and I could go on talking about it all day. Eren vs Armored Titan is one of the best things I've seen this year. They just know how to make a great scene and pull you into it.
I do have some knocks on this anime tho, First and foremost, no Levi. He made like two or three small apps that's all. Levi is just the main miss though, With only 12 episodes it just wasn't enough. Characters like Jean didn't stay with us, hell even Eren, Mikasa and Armin didn't get much screentime tbh, this season was carried by Ymir, Christa and Reiner. Which isn't a bad thing, it's just that some of the moments I got from my favorite characters in season 1, I missed in this one, it isn't really a big knock tho, I just loved season 1 a lot more.
Overall this was still an entertaining season, it had some incredible standout scenes and a great story that made it truly worthwhile.

The 6th Season of Natsume's book of friends, First of all I'm proud of how far this series has come and just how consistent it is with it's quality. It's an anime that has never disappointed me, And I hope it gets a lot more seasons.
Like every season, Natsume Yuujinchou plays to it's strengths. It's a very relaxing anime. It's quiet, slow(for good reasons), full of lovable characters. It's a vibe, a very spirtual vibe that it gives off through it's country side atmosphere and it's fantasy elements. It sometimes gets pretty dark and mysterious which adds a lot of flavor to this show. The
...
storytelling in every episode is superb, It's always fresh and simple, The use of symbolism and Goblins to tell a new tale every episode shows how well scripted and cohesive it is.
Every season it slowly pushes the story, this time it got to a point that a lot of people were biting their nails for a pretty long time, and they kinda ended it there, so I can't wait to see what happens next, I might read this manga before Attack on titan if they don't make any announcements soon.
I honestly don't have anything major to complain, sometimes it's a little unbelievable how some people react to Natsume, But it happens very rarely and it's something I can slide because of the characterization. That's it. The animation is good too, it's not anything crazy but it works very well for it's environment and the vibe that it gives off, The music is always spectacular, I'll say this, during exam times or if you have any stress, just listen to this OST it'll help. It's just beautiful.
Overall just another amazing season of my most favorite slice of life ever, Some people might not find it interesting but I would definitely recommend watching this and all it's previous seasons.
I would give a 9.5/10.

The Perfect Insider is an anime that I was interested in ever since it came out in winter 2015, mainly because of the interesting synopsis and the OP which was visually and sonically very pleasing, but I didn't see it until recently and honestly, I regret not watching this earlier.
As a mystery anime, The perfect insider does it's job very well. It keeps you guessing throughout and has a good suspense element. It's one of the better and more unique locked room mysteries that I've come across, It's just extremely dark and creepy and tries to get you hooked early on. Through 11 episodes it
...
manages to tell a good cohesive story through some smart characterization, The way they tackle the mystery is really good, They take an extremely logical approach to solving the case and that is one of the biggest strengths of the anime. The Sci-Fi part of this show I truly appreciate, mainly because the source material for this anime is a 1996 novel by Hiroshi Mori, The fact that he wrote it then and it's still so modern and relevant is a great thing and it also plays well into constructing the mystery and symbolically painting pictures.
From a Technical aspect this is one of more Hipster anime I've seen in recent years, It's whole background design is very different, they use a lot of shapes and shit, Idk why but it looks great. The cinematography and camera are pleasantly weird, especially during conversations, it makes for a pretty noble experience, The characters are weird too, they aren't bound by any normal storytelling rules and as the mystery progresses it adds a lot of dimension to both the characters and the story. Another thing I love about this show is how they end each episode, It's always very strong and makes you want to immediately click the next episode. The music does a good job of complimenting the mystery and the eerie atmosphere, I love both the OP and ED, The OP is one of my all time favorites. The animation is consistent and strong throughout. No complaints here.
Coming to the cons, While the show does a good job tackling the science and mystery in a very intelligent way, It at times fails in some of the more normal human aspects, Like maybe relationships or maybe the grief after a death or maybe when the killer is probably around you but you want to go bed. It's kinda frustrating because this is truly an amazing mystery, Even if you make a good prediction, it will still be interesting to see how it plays out. But Some things are just a little unbelievable and forced, So yeah, that's quite a knock on this show. It is also extremely talkative and preachy, which I don't mind but a lot of people might get bored easily, this surely isn't an anime for everyone.
Overall, this is was a great anime, not one that's for everyone but that's why I would recommend it to everyone. There's only one way to find out and that's you watching it, Love it or hate it, this is a mystery that you just can't miss. If you can make it past the first couple of episodes and still hang around, you're in for a real treat.

Gabriel DropOut is just one of those many shows that are not to be taken too seriously, or rather It doesn't want to be taken seriously. The creators intentions are easy to read. It just wants some commercial appeal and it wants the audience to just lay back and have some fun. But that is where the anime kinda fell flat. When you're not offering much and whatever you're offering is quite underwhelming I don't really have much to take either.
The anime is about angels and demons being sent to Earth to learn about Humans and their life. There isn't a compelling story or anything.
...
It revolves around 4 characters: Gabriel and Raphiel who are the angels, Satanichia and Vignette who are demons. These characters could be a hit or a miss. Their personalities could come off as either cute or annoying, Personally, I have mixed opinions about them. They carry the plot but the way they are written is too lazy and inconsistent, I didn't wanna say that for an anime like this but that's just how bad it is. Normally I would give a pass but this really bugged me. Nothing is very genuine or creative, it's just forced.
The main character Gabriel becomes a fallen angel, Her care free and lazy attitude is exhausting to watch. It doesn't make me laugh, it makes me lazy lol. Similarly for Satanichia who is actually one of the more likable characters. Her narcissistic attitude is funny but she is used as a really dumb person to just convey a joke, her stupidity doesn't make laugh, it makes me sad...and sometimes cringe. There have been shows which have attempted this and I thought did it well like "Himuto! Umaru chan", There was always a charm and Hilarity about Himouto's laziness that I didn't get from this show or something like "Baka to Test to Shoukanjuu" where they made clever use of Idiocy. These are shows that share similar ambitions with Gabriel DropOut but they actually do a pretty good job. It's sad cause Gabriel DropOut could maybe, be put in that category if there was more effort put into it.
The animation is decent. Nothing extraordinary but it has good detail and I appreciate the variety of Colors used. It does well to bring out the lighthearted atmosphere and the urban setting. The character designs are pretty decent too. The soundtrack is nothing special, I guess it does the job but there nothing for me to really appreciate about it. The OP and ED are just alright.
I don't wanna be harsh on this anime but at the same time I can't really give it a pass either. At the end of the day, This is not something I would recommend or not recommend. If you want to watch it, go ahead. If you don't, you're not really missing out on anything. Even with it's glaring flaws, Gabriel DropOut is overall a pretty okayish anime with some good moments here and there. I'd give this a 5/10.

Coming off the highly acclaimed and one of the best anime of 2016, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, comes it's second season and it's... I don't really know to describe how good this is, but that's just how good it is..If that makes sense. It's light, It's beautiful, It's haunting, It's deep, It's dramatic. It's one of the most masterfully made anime there is.
One of the things this show does so well is that it presents itself in the form a Rakugo. It's leisurely paced but the genuine and detailed storytelling and flawless performances combined with just the necessary amount of soundtrack certainly makes it
...
seem so. This anime is not just a love letter to the art form and it's celebrated history but also serves as a medium to revitalize the art form for it's future and introduce it to new audiences from different places and cultures. I read an article about this show, the writer brings up something about western audiences asking a Rakugoka to perform classics from this anime. It's goes to show no matter how unpopular this is in the mainstream, it has made quite a significant Impact.
Another thing this anime does very well is that it brings out the cinematic elements of an anime that one would normally take for granted, such as Screenplay, Dialogue, Cinematography, Editing, Performances, Direction and makes it stand out incredibly well. The screenplay and dialogue especially are unbeatable, whoever wrote these scripts deserves a fucking award. The Rakugo scenes are the part of the anime that really highlight these things. Giving us that theatrical experience and helping the audience understand the story being told.
The characters in the show are fantastic, they're brilliantly written and almost everyone plays a very important role in the storytelling. The anime mainly shows 3 different generation of characters. So yeah, there are a lot of different range of characters. It's interesting to see how they view Rakugo and the different approaches that they take. Yakumo for example wants to take Rakugo with him to the grave, Yotarou wants to continue Yakumo's legacy and continue the art of Rakugo, You would think Yakumo is wrong but he has some pretty valid points that made me go like, "yeah bro, you know what? just take it with you". Yakumo is my favorite character, He is probably the MVP of the year honestly, It's very interesting how the flashback events of season 1 and the progression of time play a part in his character development. The relationships these characters have are very well written and how it all dramatically plays into effect is such a joy to watch. The character design is great too, it's very unique and appealing and there is a lot of detail in their actions that really tells who they are and gives them a real identity. I love it.
Coming to the animation and soundtrack, The animation is just amazing and consistent from start to finish. Hats off to the animators and also the production studio, studio Deen, they are restating themselves with this show. I haven't seen them do anything this good honestly, Great use of colors and like I mentioned before, there is a lot of detail and effort put into the characters and setting that I truly appreciate.
The soundtrack is refreshing. Very dramatic, theatrical and sometimes very unpredictable, A lot of times it's just traditional Japanese sounds. It's minimal and used only when necessary. It plays very well into the quiet atmosphere and genuine storytelling of this anime, making it seem like a Rakugo itself.
Overall I really enjoyed this anime, it truly is one of the few shows that are near perfect in the way that it is executed and presented to you, There isn't any major flaw or anything, even things like leisurely pacing and the fact that some people might find that boring is something the anime embraces itself. It is true that this anime is not for everyone, People who usually are into the more energetic and fast paced genres might not enjoy this but I would still recommend it to you, cause this anime really is just THAT GOOD, If you're someone who is into the craft and enjoys some great storytelling, there is a really good chance you will be blown away and enjoy it as much as I did.
I would give this anime a 9.5-10/10. I am extremely satisfied with what I got, Definitely a contender for Anime of the year and easily the anime of the current winter 2017 season. Highly recommend everyone to check this out!

3-gatsu no Lion! This is an anime of Fall 2016 that I just started on a whim. I really didn't know what to expect but I was pleasantly surprised cause this anime was fuckin brilliant. So good that only 12 episodes in, it made it to my end of the year list for Top 5 anime of 2016, and only went on to solidify that position 10 episodes later.
Being a Huge Slice of life fan, this anime really stood out to me as unique and one of the best in the genre. The story has a lot of substance and progresses very well, the
...
main plot about shogi is very unique and at times feels a lot like an actual sports anime. It's really great and is very well paced but this anime's strongest point are it's characters, who do a great job carrying the plot. There is a lot of range and variety in them, They are extremely realistic and relatable, their designs are very unique and everyone is just written so well, Oh, and there are some parallels too. Especially our MC, Kiriyama Rei. He is really how good an introvert MC can get. He is considered a Prodigy Shogi player but he has a really dark past and he is such a loner. To see things from his perspective is something that's very interesting and this show does it extremely well. You sympathize with him and start to genuinely root for him, watching him grow and develop along the way is such a joy to watch. I love his first person narration too, It feels like having a real conversation with him and he says a lot of deep things, I could just listen to him all day.
There are a lot of cute and lighthearted moments that puts a genuine smile on my face. It's another thing this anime does very well, It does a great job at balancing the dark and light themes. Which is possible through the great quantity and quality side characters. Especially the scenes with Kiriyama and the Kawamoto family. Momo-chan and the Nekos are so cute, they alone make the show worth watching. The other elder sisters and Kiriyama empathize with each other, They provide some much needed hospitality and help Kiriyama overcome his loneliness. Those scenes are really warm and make you go like "Ah..That's such a lovely family" but nah, they've been through some shit too, there is always that lowkey sadness under that bright smile. They've been holding back a lot, but we all want to be happy, we all want to or should at least try to look forward to a bright future no matter how dark our past is or how big of a mark it left on us. This is something the anime conveys really well.
Again, This anime has a fine amount of well written side characters, some of my favorites are Nikaidou, He considers himself as our MC's rival and best friend. He's a very charming and energetic character and it's hard not to love how passionate he is about Shogi. Kyouko is someone who's negatively affected our MC in past, She is that character you'll hate but still feel for. Shimada is one of my favorite characters, He's very calm and mature. But his ambitions and back story are what make you wanna really root for him. Touji Souya is the #1 Shogi player, He has "Loner" written all over him and I really like the mysterious vibes i get from him, also has like parallels to Kiriyama which I mentioned earlier. Can't take my eyes off him during his screen presence. I could talk about them all day, just few of brilliant characters here.
I love the animation and soundtrack. The art style is very unique and refreshing. some of the city and water landscapes are breathtaking as well. It does a great job of making the quiet and lonely atmosphere feel like a quiet and lonely atmosphere.
The Soundtracks are soooo good. Sometimes they come in so well it gives me chills. It's just excellent. I love all the OPs and EDs as well. I watch the second OP at least 5 times before starting the episode. It is Performed by Yuki. Who also performed the OP of "Sakamichi no Apollon". Another one of my favorite OPs. Her voice is kinda weird but brilliant and goes incredibly well with the production. I love the 2nd ED too! It gives me some lonely, nostalgic vibes. Love it.
Overall I really enjoyed this show, I'd give it a 9.25/10. This is an anime I'd highly recommend. Again, one of the best shows of 2016 in my opinion. I'd suggest it to even people who don't normally enjoy Slice of life as well. It has something for everyone so just give it a shot and hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did!

"Kuzu no Honkai" is the most fucked up show I've seen since "School days". Honestly, this show could be a Hit or a miss for most people. For me, fortunately or unfortunately it was big miss. Although I do appreciate the boldness to create and put out something like this this, can't say I'm a fan of it.
There really isn't much I can appreciate about the anime. It is a cringe-fest of a show with a few okay moments. There isn't much to the story, it isn't very eventful or progressive, it relies heavily on the discovery and the development of the characters, which
...
in my opinion is it's biggest flaw. There is not a single character I like in this show, Everyone is annoying as fuck and in no way relatable, they're so bland and poorly written, they all just seem like they are different versions of themselves. They are all so fucked up and their actions are so forced and predictable. Their dialogues are so corny and wannabe-deep. When their thoughts are narrated in a first person narrative it is sooo exhausting to even listen to them. Their designs are however not bad and there are a few comic moments that stood out and made them likeable, even if it was for just a moment.
Another huge flaw are the sex scenes, I don't have any problems with sex scenes but here it's just so forced and over-saturated, like there is a mandatory sex scene in every episode which kinda halts whatever this show is going for and gives us a few minutes of just pure cringe. it is just so uncomfortable to watch their movements and listen to their dialogues. They don't even really have sex, it's just boring to watch. If you're reading this and want to watch this show for this kinda content, I would suggest putting your dick back inside and look for something else lol.
One thing I've seen this show being praised for is it's "maturity". Which I strongly disagree, although this anime does seem to have that kind of ambitions, it's stray far away from it or rather comes off as very pseudo-mature. Really, how does a bunch of junior high kids who try to compensate their desires and insecurities through such fucked up pretentious acts come off as mature? It's doesn't, Oh! and don't get me started on the slutty teacher character who does a bunch of crazy things too. It's not mature at all.
The three things that I do like very much about this show are the Animation, Soundtrack and Voice acting. I appreciate Lerche studio's effort to tell this mess of a story as cohesive as possible. There is good detail and clarity in the animation which truly deserves praise.
The soundtrack is really great too. I really like the OP and ED, the BGM switches up at times and can come off as very unpredictable, which played a major role in helping me sit through this mess. One of the BGMs has like a Piano tune kinda similar to Kanye West's "Runaway". That was really good, overall, great job with the soundtrack. The voice acting was noticeably great as well. Like I mentioned before, the anime is dark but it does have some comic moments, the voice actors transition so well at times like these, it's so genuine. Props to the voice actors.
Overall, to me it's a frustrating watch and I wouldn't seriously recommend this to anyone. But there is some hype around this show at the moment, and some people do seem to like it for whatever reason so maybe you will too. If you're confused whether to watch it or not, just check out the first episode and maybe the second one too, if it intrigues you then continue, if you feel like I how I did, then just drop it.
My rating for this show 3/10.

What if one day you recieved information about a certain tragic event that will take place in the future, you know it's gonna happen..how are you gonna change it? what if something you do only makes it worse? what if changing it affects someone else? there is no way to know for sure, you never what could happen unless you act...maybe that's why the show is called "Orange" (?) you know it has a taste but it is unpredictable, it could sweet,sour..you never know unless you take a bite. I don't know, I could very well be wrong here.
This is story of "Orange", One morning
...
Naho recieves a letter from her future self warning her about her own regrets and requesting her to fix those regrets and save Kakeru. So can Naho save Kakeru? It's all there in the letter, right? shouldn't it be easy? No, saving this guy is a more complex and monumental task than it sounds.
There are many things I really appreciate about this show. It's boldness to use Time elements and keeping the science fiction to a minimum and just concentrate on lighthearted storytelling. The story is simple and built on very good character development. Each episode focuses on Naho trying to erase or avoid regrets, which is very interesting to watch. It's starts off really well and first 6 episodes are really really good, after that it somewhat didn't feel right, the quality in animation started to drop and dialouge was a little cringy. But that was only for a couple of episodes, it just felt like *what is so great about this show?* and then it slowly became better and the greatness kicks in, in the second last episode and the 40 minute finale was nothing short of absolute brilliance. A masterpiece in writing, dialouge and development. The Animation in this episode is sublime as well, maybe the okayish animation in the middle was just the studio saving up for this one. The story revolves around a small group of characters who are unique and relatable and they're fun to watch.
But what i really appreciate about this show is *may contain very minor spoilers* how they display the trauma of a person who has suicidal thoughts, They create an atmosphere and show you what it feels like to be that person, putting us in those final moments and showings us their final thoughts before dying, those scenes are just beyond terrifying and give you the chills. I can't describe how well done that is, Hats off to the writer for that!
It does have some minor flaws, like i mentioned earlier the animation screwed up a little, some scenes are overly melodramatic and cringy. the biggest problem i have is how they send the letters, *may contain very minor spoilers* five regular people sending letters through a Black hole is hard to buy, they just gave us that infodump than anything in detail. maybe they'll cover that in the upcoming movie but I can judge only based on what they've given us.
with that being said, i would give my final rating to show with an Overall score of
9/10
which makes "Orange" my anime of the season: Summer (2016)
"Orange" is an amazing show that overcomes it's flaws with it's brilliant writing and development, Definitely a show to check out, especially for those who are a fan of slice of life and romance.
