I actually would give it a 7.2/10, which is about a D+. I don't really think this anime is very "good" at a story standpoint; it's characters are flat and don't really develop, the games they play are needlessly complicated and occaisionaly I had no idea what was going on, and it sometimes felt like the second season of Death Note (which was terrible). For all that, I enjoyed it. It was one of those animes that was just fun and silly, not taking itself entirely seriously. There were moments where I thought that the series might be getting full of itself and was trying
...
to force me to be amazed by the main characters and think they were geniuses, but that was almost immediately relieved by dumb gags and random fanservice, which is always welcomed. The characters, while flat, were cute and didn't annoy me. There were characters I really didn't care about (*cough*steph*cough*), but I never hated them. The games got stupidly intricate at times, but all that was happening was so ridiculous, I just blew it off. All in all, this is anime you watch on a lazy Saturday afternoon. It made me laugh quite a bit, left me baffled, and was just an idiotic, fun anime.

I gave this anime 6.9/10, to be exact, which is approximately a D. This anime is a pretty standard comedy, not unlike Lucky Star, but all the same, I found it to be an enjoyable watch. This series, however, feels as if it needs to shove in "character development" and "drama", which feels out of place in this kind of show and is executed terribely. In these kinds of episodes, it feels like they are trying to be Welcome To The NHK, but it ends up feeling more like the "dramatic" episodes in Hetalia, which are also out of place. The only reason to watch

this show is to see the himouto version of Umaru be lazy, push her brother around, and make Kirie her servant. It just feels annoying when they try to push the whole "she's living a double life, what will she do" thing because it just never feels compelling and perfect Umaru's character is bland and unexciting. Nonetheless, I really liked the side characters in the show and there was ony one that I wasn't too fond of. I thought Kirie's relationship with Umaru was interesting and funny, bringing an interesting dynamic to Umaru's "himouto" situation. Sylphyn, too, was enjoyable and felt like the only character to get any real development. Ebina, though, was a classic moe blob; she was forgetable, bothersome, and didn't add much to the show. The only thing I liked about her was her backstory about how she moved to Tokyo from Akita and she had to learn to talk like the people in Tokyo do and how she felt embarrassed about where she was from. Her accent sometimes came through when she was excited or eating familiar food, which was pretty cute. I would say that if you liked Lucky Star and are curious about the idea of a girl who acts perfect and public, but is a lazy, selfish shut-in when she comes home, then you might enjoy this anime.

I gave this anime a 6.3/10, which is an F. I hate this anime… so… much. It pulled me in and made me think they were going to put in lots of character development and that it would be wrapped up nicely in the end, but NOPE. Out of 20 characters, we only learn 5 characters backstories and how 4 of them died. They try to explain how this all was happening at the end, but it left more questions than answers. The worst thing about it is that it had so much potential. The initial plot was interesting, I loved all of the characters,
...
and it had an air of mystery around it, but they ruined it. They absoulutely shat on it. The ending left my no closure; my beloved characters were just stripped away, never to be seen again, and the ending scene with two of the main characters made NO SENSE. IMA SPOIL, K? Kanade said that she got her heart from Otanashi and thanked him because it let her live longer, but that makes no sense because the show makes it seem as if the fuede between Yuri and Kanade had been going for a while. I mean, they had already gone through two guilds, created uniforms, and figured out how to "make weapons from dust", which I still don't understand how that worked. If that is true, Otanashi died WAY before Kanade. Yuri had been there before Otanashi too and the show implies that ever since she arrived in purgatory, she's been at war with Kanade, BUT SHE WOULDN'T HAVE DIED YET. ALSO, HOW DID KANADE KNOW IT WAS HIS HEART. SHE GIVES A STUPID REASON THAT IT WAS BECAUSE WHEN SHE SHOT HIM, SHE SAW NO HEART AND THAT WHEN HE REGAINED ALL HIS MEMORIES, HE LAID HIS HEAD ON HER HEART, HIS HEART. BUT HOW COULD YOU KNOW THAT? COULDN'T HE JUST BE SOME GUY WHO ALSO GAVE HIS HEART AWAY? AND HOW DO YOU KNOW THAT HE GOT HIS MEMORIES BACK WHEN HE LAID HIS HEAD OVER HER HEART? ACCORDING TO THE SHOW'S OWN PLOT, YOU JUST GOT HERE. ALSO, WHEN PEOPLE DIE, DO THEY COME TO PURGATORY IN THE BODY THEY HAD WHEN THEY DIED? BECAUSE OTANASHI SHOULD STILL HAVE A GHOST HEART SINCE WHEN HE DIED IN THE TRAIN WRECKAGE, HE STILL HAD IT. UNLESS THEY ARE ZOMBIES. IF SO, HOW DOES THAT WORK? ARE THEY STOLEN…? ARE THEY COPIES OF THEIR CORPSE ON EARTH. IF SO, WHY ARE THEY NOT ALL ROTTED AND GROSS? ANOTHER WOULDN'T THERE BE KIDS COMING IN ALL THE TIME, SINCE THERE ARE TONS OF KIDS WITH BAD CHILDHOODS DIEING EVERYDAY? IS THIS PURGATORY JUST FOR JAPANESE KIDS? IS THERE A SEPARATE PURGATORY FOR EVERY LIVING ENVIRONMENT? WHAT IF SOMEONE'S YOUTH WAS SPENT SOMEWHERE HORRIBLE? IS THERE A DEFAULT PURGATORY FOR THEM THAT IS JUST A BASIC, NICE CHILDHOOD? WAIT! THEY SAID OTANASHI HAD AMNESIA FROM A HEAD TRAUMA AND THAT'S HOW HE GOT IN PURGATORY, BUT WHEN DID THAT HAPPEN? HE DIED LAYING DOWN! HOW DID HE GET AMNESIA FROM LAYING DOWN? THIS SHOW IS HORRIBLE. IT'S HOOOORRRRIIIBBBBLLLLEEEE. I HATE IT SO MUCH.

I gave this show 7.8/10, which is about a C. I liked this show. It reminded me a bit of K-On!, as both were centered around a band and the friendships within the band that grow overtime. This show, of course, has a lot shorter of a run time than K-On!, so it was not able to get in nearly as much as character and relationship development, which is unfourtuneate, but not necessary. The show's ending felt complete; it didn't feel like the main plot needed to go further or that it was cut short. However, I though there was a lot of things that
...
were left enexplored in the show. I would have liked to know more about the world the show is set in, as well as the relationship between Shuu and Rom, which is mentioned, but not much information was provided. It just showed the two being antagonistic to eachother, which would make more sense if the audience really knew what was causing those feelings. There were some on running jokes in the show, mostly concerning the band ShingancrimsonZ, that didn't get annoying, per se, but were more boring as time went on. Overall, the jokes were all pretty funny and made me laugh out loud most of the time. I absolutely loved all the characters, especially the side characters who were from seperate bands. They all had interesting personalities and were fun to watch, though some of them we didn't see much of and would pop up every so often, making it difficult to discern what their character was. Another confusing and amusing aspect of the show was the character designs, which ranged from cool to what is that. A couple of the charcater's animals were easy to tell and for a few, one could at least make a partially accurate guess. Most of them, however, were a mystery. I had to look at the Show By Rock!! Wiki to know what animals the majority of the animals were. This is partly due to the designs of the characters looking nothing like the animals they are supposed to be. The twins from Trichronika had medium sized ears and a tail that looked somewhat nine-tailed fox-like, so I assumed they were a wolf or maybe even a cat, but they are actually fennec foxes, which perplexes me. The main and most noticeable trait of fennec foxes are their huge ears, but Riku and Kai's ears were not big at all. Fennec fox tails, too, are fairly slender and almost cat-like, but their tails were out of control. The design of Retoree, a supposed golden retriever, always makde me snicker when she ws on screen because instead of haveing actual dog ears, they gave her twin tails. I thought she was just a regular human until I saw she had a tail. She looked very out of place. What's more is that some of the animals chosen were just bizarre and sometimes weren't even animals! There was a character that was a tadpole and a few that were yokai and spirits. Their designs weren't necessarily bad, but just looked very odd next to the rest of the cast, who were mostly plain old mammals. Nonetheless, there were also lots of character designs I really liked, like Darudayu's and and Shuu's. In this review, I did point out a lot of it's flaws and didn't touch too much on the good points. This is mostly because the good points are more simple and the issues were either dissapointing, so I felt I should mention them, or funny and actually something that added to the show. I really like this show becuase of just how cute it was. The music was cute, the animal virtual animal forms were cute, and the fact they defeat monsters with music is also really, really cute. This is a show that is an interesting watch and enjoyable if you like adorable things.
