I tried Code Geass after hearing that it was really popular in my area. I must say, it is one of the best anime I've seen.
I originally didn't care much for Mecha anime, as I thought they would just be anime where the guy with the strongest machine is supposed to win, but the main character defies all odds and wins anyway. That is pretty much how most anime plotlines go.
