Edit: Nevermind, it actually wasn't it at all. I guess it was a very calming cool anime but the story was, in the end, meh :(
I AM A LAZARUS APOLOGETIC.
plenty people parrot profusely peering past the plot’s purpose.
Preconceptions of how this show "should" feel like, cloud the judgement and enjoyment of so many—sad face.
Plot - This is a story we have all seen before—it's just someone's take on how it looks -> I think it's great.
The world these characters are in is literally just us + 30 years; so, yeah, I guess I understand how that can feel stale (I mean it's not
...
like they're adding any plot device that is too crazy), but it feels nuts to fault them for it. Especially if it's because of some expectation of a hype show.
You know what this show is to me? Call of Night + Le "Bebop" Formula + sprinkles of "the writers read brave new world". I quite like that. I n f a c t -> I have been WAITING for something like this. There is something so comforting about a show that can transport you away and make you feel "CHILL". It's like Cowboy Bebop "Toys in The Attic" episode type vibe — I hope you know what I mean. It's chill, the underlying plot is everyone is going to die, it's chill, these guys are secret agents and there's plenty of fights, i t ' s c h i l l , there's robots and planes and explosions, BUT -> it's chill. You know?? I really, REALLY, dig that.
Character Designs - This is where I kinda understand where people are coming from—but not because of what you think, look: you see some character, slap "oh so this is Faye" / "this is spilke" / this is x, y, z... my man. That is missing the plot. Let it flow dude, you have NO idea who ANY of these characters are. There is no depth yet, and I mean SHOULD THERE BE? Like, I know we quickly can identify characters in trigun, shamploo, and cb since we've likely seen them multiple times over :: BUT :: how quickly did you get to understand their complexity, respectively ?? I understand that it might be going slow in understanding who these people are, and I mean ... TBH ....... they could mess up here .... they cooouuuld mess up; I might be DEAD wrong .... but, I think we'll get to appreciate their depth over more episodes if we just give it time and not slap other character molds into fresh batter.
Art/Animation - Fights are amazing. Animation is great. Not the prettiest/polished thing you will EVER see, but it looks great on the bigscreen.
Dialogue - The dialogue is literally how people talk. If you think you some dudes sound cool 24/7 -> no. It's quite calming. It gets annoying when they use some tech jargon, but I don't mind it not being perfect.
Music - Nice tunes, lots of replay value. Music plays quite an important role in how episodes feel like -> it feels more than just atmosphere.
I will say it again:
By looking at this show through a lens of what you think it aught to be, you will NOT enjoy it.
Just let it f–l–o–oooooooo–oooooww please trust me let it flow.
Like -> There are 6 minutes
!!!SIX MINUTES!!!
of the characters just chillin around for 6 minutes
!!! SIX MINUTES !!!
in episode 7. I LOVED EVERY SINGLE SECOND OF the 6 minutes.
!!! SIX MINUTES !!!
They're just chilling! Plot is super slowly progressing underneath yes, but, in the foreground they're: CHILLING for 6 minutes.
!!! SIX MINUTES !!!
I mean that's amazing right there. SO amazing.
watch it :P

Goblin Slayer is beautiful and provokes great feelings of nostalgia for anyone who has played old-school MMORPGs. It's not an isekai, but it makes you feel like you're gazing through a mirror into a classic MMO world.
In a nutshell, it's a pleasing show with fair amounts of, in its setting, realism. Nothing feels overpowered or broken. Everyone in the main crew resembles a level 30 adventurer that has chosen their role at the town a week prior. Character design is great, the environment is great, lore allows for lots of fill-in-the-blanks but still good... it just makes you hope you could be reincarnated there –
...
without being an isekai. Great to add to your watching list for some fantasy!
Story: 7/10. Not quite episodic storytelling, but the arcs are somewhat short and there's no big plotline other than killing goblins. Linearity is not an enemy to a good story in certain situations—this is one of them. The plot, although it feels pointless, allows for the exploration of the beautiful world and slow introduction to characters + their desires. This feels, as I have not read the manga, like an extended journey into the life of our protagonist in overcoming his trauma, a trauma we haven't touched even 10% into yet. This is good. It allows for a lot to happen before the real issues of the show are addressed (plus they are never forgotten, you are reminded of everyone's personal trajectory as you watch). Albeit, there is slow progress done every episode to the protagonist's main stories, as you feel negative qualities be slowly eroded by an exposure to various simple plot devices.
Overall, it gets a 7 not because it's anything special, but because it does nothing special very well.
Characters: 7/10. I hate likeability as a factor for character design approval, but if that is what you are looking for, everyone is likeable—except for a red-haired mage. In my opinion, a well-designed character makes the audience get even more invested in the anime. All characters, especially side characters, achieve that purpose. You wish you could be there in the guild having a cold one, telling tales of great peril, fighting monsters in caves, or rizzing up a lass around the town. Characters are confronted constantly with life and death situations, the fragility of life, and their puny capacity to overcome situations of peril.
The most important characters in the show, goblins, act like a force of true evil that continuously endangers the life of our heroes. They are the driving force and have a well-thought-out design. They symbolize the adaptability of evil to inflict pain on humans. A simple enemy in any MMO, a force to be reckoned with in this anime.
Animation/World/Setting: 8/10 I think that this is self-explanatory from what I have said previously. They borrowed from amazing source material that is all MMORPGs from the good old days, and the animators adapted the world perfectly. The guild feels alive, the scenery draws you in, the art is neat, the girls are beautiful, the men are cool-looking Ichigos. Absolutely nothing to complain about. It's not mushuku tensei, but it's very good!
Music/OST/Openings/Endings: 6/10 Nothing too special in this department. The music achieves its intended purpose; it submerges you into a fantasy world and contributes to the illusion adequately. The OST is not The Witcher 3 or Uncharted 3, but it's Call of Duty—you never really notice its greatness, but for it to be good, you don't have to. Openings are over the top, and I personally did not like the songs in them or the endings.
Overall, 7.33, repeating, of course.
PS: Everyone who says this anime is dark and "too much" is right but slightly incorrect. The anime is not for people under 18, technically, because of blood and sexual abuse themes. However, if you're over 18, you've seen this a million times on television. However, I am biased since I think even Redo of Healer is an interesting exploration of sexual abuse and mental disorders, and I like when sex (+ its negative counterparts) is included in anime since it makes it more human and realistic on a completely different axis.

I personally do not think that a show has to excel or achieve in every quality to be given praise.
Sometimes, all that you need is a show that knows how to do a few things really well.
At the time of writing this, I have not yet watched an anime that has a combination of attention to detail, dialogue, and a story that is so engaging and relatable.
Let me explain to you what I mean by combination:
There is a scene where the nerves of one of the main characters are conveyed through repetitive clicking of a mechanical pen, until they had to put
...
the lead back in. That is such a simple thing but we all did it in high school, and to think about showing us nerves in this way is just so mesmerizing to me.
Anyways, this all happens while the most cheesy and weird prepubescent dialogue is going on between the two main characters.
A lot of reviews would say it is cringy but, honestly, cringe is when the main character has no idea how to talk to girls and he's just like "WHAaHAh!?!" and girls basically carry his personality (like kirito from SAO).
In this anime, however, I swear that the head of script makes me feel like I'm watching a homie teasing and being witty with chicks for hours on end. AND THAT'S MAD FUNNY.
Finally, I mentioned "the story" because the two aforementioned attributes of dialogue and detail are the main vehicles of support for major plot events and advancements in the story, preventing you from feeling like things are becoming dull.
Even though I gave you only one example (so as to not spoil) this happens all of the time in this anime.
If this is your first time watching slice of life, it doesn't feel more real life than this really. I finally have found an SOL anime I can show my friends and I know that they're gonna relate to it and like it.
