My score for Stampede was emotional and nothing else. Just as same it was with Yuukoku no Moriarty. Am such a big fan of original works I simply can't go over any sort of reinterpretation. Granted it's not deserving of a score of 1, but it's not an overwhelming 10 as majority seems to be giving. To me watching Stampede season was equal to when I was watching American remake of Old Boy movie. Original is a work of timeless art, told in perfect way, with perfect pacing and stellar acting. New one is not bad, but it's disgusting in comparison to original.
Same thing I'd say for this. Had there been only Stampede, or had they tackled a new story I would have loved watching it even if I didn't like it as much as original Trigun. But they didn't. Netflix decided they wanted to grab some more easy cash by retelling the same story with changed elements benefiting no one. More to the point, they changed what made original so great, Vash. From a deeply troubled persona wearing a mask of jokester while avoiding every form of violence to a trope character seen in every other anime. From few episodes I've seen everything is shallow by comparison.
In short, I was disgusted at the needless cash grab that was meant to play on our nostalgia and fond memories of beloved show. They could have done anything else, even came up with their own story, but no. They decided to shit on our fond memories, and for that they get lowest score possible. Artists probably had the best intention in the world and wanted to do Vash some justice, but I can bet you there was a manager out there who was rubbing their own hands while realizing they could squeeze some money out of this considering IP is entering public domain soon. Fuck those guys.
