Game Reviews:
Ys Origins
Admittedly it's been a while since I played this game but I think it deserves a place on my list. This was a pretty good game. The only area that I would like to see improved was that storyline. The bosses were challenging and the levels were setup in a nostalgic "Item X allows Ability Y to pass area Z".
Despite being set in a tower, it has the clearly defined clichéd stages (water stage, fire stage, etc) but that's fine, it would be pretty boring if it looked like a tower the whole game.
As far as game mechanics go, there were no points that I felt like the controls were holding me back, the grinding never became tedious and the enemy types didn't stick around long enough to become boring.
Ys III : Oath in Felghana
This is a remake of Ys III for the SNES and MSX.
That said, it only resemblence the original games. I thought that it was fantastic. great story, great character development, 3D!, action RPG, and best of all; it doesn't get ridiculously hard at the halfway mark (AKA the pacing is tremendously improved).
The bosses are awesome in the way that good old bosses were: pattern based avoidable (with effort) attacks that required a lot of strategic maneuvering.
3D Dot Game Heroes
Let's just start off with this :Zelda Clone.
Now that that's out of the way, the game itself is an homage to classic adventure gameplay. The format is pretty standard 'go to dungeon, collect magic item' but this game is more than just a nostalgia trip. The world is open to aimless wandering(adventuring) and has lots of sidequests but more importantly, the main objectives are always clearly defined. No more of this "we better wander around till we find our next objective" feeling. The story is kinda cheesy, and the game breaks the fourth wall to acknowledge that in a toungue in cheek manner, but it's fun. There's only one fetch quest forced upon the hero, so besides that the game pace is fairly linear. The game mechanics are fine tuned with the only annoyance being that the huge sword at full health makes it hard to move on if you take a hit no matter how many life upgrades you have (but you don't have to worry about that in spelunker mode since one hit is instant death).
Final note: some of the music is awesome, and some of it is very oldschool and repetitive but if you're like me and enjoy that then it's fine.
Recettear
It's exactly whet everyone said it was; a refreshing break from the usual rpg standard. All in all though, the item shop managment (like all other management games) and the dungeon crawling becomes tedious quick. At least it's an action RPG though, no "random" battles, besides bosses, are completely necessary.

Fan-art's definitely one of my favourite subjects to draw. It's just more passionate than drawing any old thing, though I guess as a hobbyist, I can't speak for everyone. :) Your drawing's very good considering you haven't been practising for a long time!
Cool that your mom knows about drawing and stuff. My parents don't know anything about art.
I've never tried drawing tattoo designs, since I'm no good with design in general. Have you taken art courses before?
Each episode is only five minutes long so you can probably determine if you'll like it or not in a fairly short time. The fall season is the most impressive of the year in my opinion, but even then, I'll only be following 2 series: MM! and Arakawa 2 due to time constraints. Arakawa's 1st episode was fantastic. MM! was alright and funny enough to keep me interested. I still need to finish up stuff from last season as well as my On-Hold.
Yeah, I've got a tablet. I should have invested in a larger one. Not to say that a small one doesn't work (I've got a Wacom Bamboo), but it's a little difficult to use, since with the driver installed, the total tablet space is equivalent to the monitor space. And given that your monitor will be larger than the tablet, that means that a lot of pixels will be covered in a small area of your tablet, so the pen will travel fast across the monitor in contrast to the speed of your hand. Still works great, though, as long as you're not thinking of using it for your profession. Do you draw? You got a dA?
Mushishi's incredible. It's too bad I watched Natsume Yuujinchou after it; I think my expectations after watching Mushishi were too high, so watching NY was a bit off for me. Though, I enjoyed it nonetheless. :)
I see that you're watching Gintama. You liking it? I feel like it spirals down after the 100-episode mark, but the first half was incredibly funny.
Really? I thought it was rather hyped up to be honest. The score for the two seasons is unexpectedly high as well; I guess there are just numerous fangirls out there. Eve no Jikan was great, although I'm not sure if I'd want to watch a recap of it. There are just too many new stories out there I'd like to try.
I didn't even notice that, but yeah, Ivan Braginski does look like Gauche. I love that kind of facial expression.
you'll most likely not regret it, as I'm quite critical when it comes to anime
