If you haven't watched the first season of Clannad then watch it first before you watch Afterstory so you can get to know the main characters and how the main character interacts with other characters. and this review contains spoilers so yeah
STORY- 10
Afterstory starts off kind of slow and the first 6 to 10 episodes are exactly like the first season. (Tomoya helping others and doing what he did in the first season.) honestly was pissed off when Nagisa died. I was about to give the series up but I watched the episode and finished the rest of Afterstory in one night. That night was full of tears. They weren't just tears of sadness but there were also tears of happiness and joy. I felt like an emotional wreck while watching the second half of Afterstory. There were plenty of sad moment but then there were also times when the supporting characters make laugh your ass off. The ending was kind of a mind fuck. The whole time I was thinking: What just happened? It was a dream!?!?! haha but still I loved the ending because it felt like the ending was trying to tell us something like second chances don't come by too often.
ART- 8
The art in Clannad was definitely better than most. The scenes were played perfectly. For example, Nagisa's death. They played the scene like they were in a different world surrounded by nothing. The reason why the art got an 8 is because Clannad is one of the older anime. Anime designs have been getting better and better these pass 4 or 5 years.
SOUND- 9
The music and the voice acting was perfect. You can really tell the mood of the character by listening to their voice like when Tomoya was apologizing to Ushio for not being a good father and in the same exact scene the music that starts playing when they both start crying...The sound in this anime is a huge part into making this anime so emotionally stressful. The one thing that pissed me off was at the end of one of the episodes I was balling my eyes out and then some upbeat happy music starts playing and kills the mood (the reason why sound got a 9), but besides that the sound really would deserve a 10.
CHARACTER- 10
First of all I just have to say that every character in Clannad has their own feel to them. Tomoya and his aggressiveness (I don't know how to put it.)
Ushio and her awkwardness when meeting her father for the first time. Nagisa...so cute. The main character (Tomoya) has the craziest character development in Afterstory. I swear, it's like his character is riding a rollercoaster. His character really bounces up and down and it's kind of hard to explain it without revealing alot of things about the anime.
ENJOYMENT- 10
I really enjoyed Afterstory. This series made me laugh, cry, hit walls, and cry. I think I really enjoyed this anime because of how beautiful the story was. The story and the plot was just absolutely perfect. I'm pretty sure even if you know what happens in the series it will still grab your attention and probably will make you cry. but in a good way. This series really is an emotional roller coaster so just enjoy the ride.
OVERALL- 10
I really recommend this series. Or just watch Afterstory. This show will make you feel like you never did before or at least to me it did. After watching this series I really reflected on my life and now I don't think my life is so bad. Your perspective will probably widen after watching Afterstory. This series really opened my eyes and I hope it does the same for you.
10/10 one of the best anime out there
