Mixed feelings on that particular series, in which the twist was totally unexpected on my part but the ending left me a bit unsatisfied.

It's one of the rare anime that actually follow a relationship from the beginning and goes on after highschool :)
I can recommend you to watch Clannad, Kanon (2006) & Air. Those 3 are sad ones. Oo btw, Clannad Afterstory is airing now so you could catch up with it after watching Clannad! :>
