Random and absurd slice of life comedy that can be relatable at times, each episode is totally random as it is mostly moe comedy that some times goes into full action mode where all the characters start getting serious for silly and hilarious reasons.
Story:
Let's state the obvious, there is no overarching story and it doesn't try to deliver any message but that doesn't mean there's no character development as there are minor character arcs which doesn't ruin the heartwarming experience of the show, I especially found the story of Nano a robot wanting to live a normal life very heartwarming. this show have
...
a random pacing that takes some time to get used to it, absurdity is how to describe Nichijou so it makes sense for it to have an absurd pacing.
Character:
This show have varying main charecters like the cute spoiled 8-year-old Hakase, the expressionless intelligent and prank loving Mai, the energetic simple-minded Yuuko and interesting interactions that don't have the tension most other anime have, and it also have a lot of varying supporting charecters that get their share of screen time.
Art:
Nichijou have a pretty relaxing feel that defines the whole experience thanks to the direction and artstyle that are both unique and fun to look at, add to that its fitting OST that sets the mood very well and a surprisingly fluid animation for slice of life. I like the unique and creative way each shot is visualized adding to its silliness and the use of vibrant and bright colors and good voice acting that amplify their energy be it shy, energetic, lifeless, etc.
Over all a pretty enjoyable, relaxing and funny ride if I turned my brain off as nothing is supposed to make too much sense. I liked Nichijou and even felt invested and I'm sure it stands above many other slice of life anime. I don't see it as a masterpiece Due to the lack of a memorable, deep, well delivered message/theme and plot (this is my take on slice of life) and all charecters aren't deep as the majority can be described accurately with no more than 4 personality traits.
