This review is going to focus on 3 aspects. Story, characters and soundtrack.
Ill start off with the soundtrack since it's the simplest one.
I personally like classical music and listen to it quite often, so it's pretty easy for me to give it a ten. Then again, many people dislike classical music and that actually might ruin the anime for them (it's also notable that one shouldn't simply skip the music since it's a crucial part of the show). But regardless of the classical music, Hikaru Nara, the opening song - listen to it. Perfection.
Characters - I'll be addressing the 4 main ones, cba writing more
...
than that.
Kousei - I love this character. Not only is he a nice, delightful person, he also has piano skills, hell yh. It's hard not to feel pity for him because of his childhood. The only thing I kinda disliked is that he didn't stand up to his mother. Understandable, he was a little child but still a bit disappointing. I like how he didn't succumb to the "peer pressure" to perform with Kaori (at first at least), but then listened to his friends when he saw how persistent they are, which in my opinion is important (to listen to outside opinion. How persistent is generally proportional to how serious/important). I won't go into any details as to his development with Kaori, but I liked how he handled things on that area as well.
Kaori - I'll keep it brief. I probably like her more than I should because of the fact that the story is kinda told from Kousei's perspective, and he *not that big a spoiler* loves her */not that big a spoiler*. But, she plays the violin (which is sexy imo), she smiles a lot, and she seems like the kind of person that is fun to hang about. She does pull some crap where she acts bossy, and sometimes she acts like a little girl which I personally dislike in.. any girl basically, but that's down to personal preference (I guess this whole review is a personal opinion). The most important part is that she excites. Reading her letters (or listening to her reading them) was emotional for me.
Tsubaki - My least favourite character. She's the kind of girl that calls everyone stupid instead of directly coming to Kousei and explaining the situation she's in. Come on, they've known each other for years, she should know how to approach him and how he'd probably react. *spoiler* Then she tries to convince Kousei to give up on Kaori for some weird reason *spoiler*
Watari - The god. The way he handled the mini confrontation between himself and Kousei regarding Kaori - just inspired me. I simply love him. If he was a main character in some anime, I would watch that anime, and as long as the story isn't shit, I would like that anime.
Story - I can't write a thorough review about the story if I want to avoid spoilers so here's a summary - a good background concept, followed by the correct characters to get the story going. Very good neutral development that leads to a ridiculously emotional ending.
To sum up, this is a train ride to feels land, so if you don't like that sort of stuff then this anime is NOT for you. But if you are, hope on for a ride.
