Owari no Seraph (Seraph of the End) is definitely what I feel to be more of an 'underrated' anime of sorts. I say this because I know very few other people that have watched it and call themselves a fan, but this anime was very much enjoyable, and if you are still debating on whether to give it a watch, I'd be happy to provide you with some reasons why I believe you should start watching right away.
First off the story, honestly, I was skeptical at first after reading the synopsis. I have never really been a fan of vampires, the whole idea of them
...
just doesn't interest me very much however in this anime they create a whole dystopia around it. The vampires have a whole society after humanity suffered a massive loss as a virus killed everyone over the age of 13, and have cultivated a way of living around using humans as their livestock. Rather than making vampires the cliche monsters that are out to suck your blood and such, as the show progresses, our own innate trust in humanity is shaken as we are left to wonder who are the real monsters in this story, humans or the vampires? If you are someone who wants an anime with a good plot and plenty of action then this would be perfect for you, and if you don't believe me give the first episode a watch. I have seen plenty of animes I consider good but most of the time the first episodes can be slow but then proceed to get good later on (ex for me: hunter x hunter) but Owari no seraph hooked me by the first episode. It throws the action at you from the get-go, throwing you into a world where disaster is striking, then introducing the new world that has sprung from said disaster, and shows the heartbreaking catalyst that gives our main protagonist purpose throughout the rest of the show. The story takes off from there and all you have to do is sit back, watch, and enjoy as a great plot with great characters unfolds before your very eyes.
Another thing that really gave this anime a special place in my heart is the beautiful way that relationships are written for the characters. When I say relationships, I do not mean romance, I mean brotherhood, friendship, and the importance of family. If you are like me and enjoy a lot of shounen anime that tend to have best friends as the main protagonists then you would enjoy Owari no seraph just as much as I did. I am definitely a sucker for well-written friendships and as you watch the show you will certainly be rooting for the long-awaited reunion of characters as well as enjoying the new relationships the main character creates with his new 'family.' I always loved how the importance of family is represented in this show because it creates a sort of empathy with you and the characters which only lead me to love them all the more. From heartbreaking moments to moments of fun and joy, this show offers nothing less than amazing characters both protagonists and antagonists that carry out the story in an entertaining and interesting way. Even though this show is completely based on fictional creatures and a dystopian world, there are still quotes and things you can relate to yourself and take to heart, which is another reason why this show is so dear to me. From the big plot twists, sweet character interactions, and crazy action-packed story, this show really made its mark in my life and I hope it would stand out to you too.
Overall I did give this anime an 8, but that is me trying to be as objective as possible, if I were to give it a biased score then I would give it a 10 because I really enjoyed this anime to the fullest extent. There is no news for a season 3, but I couldn't say goodbye to these characters just yet so I picked up the manga and I have been enjoying it a lot. So hopefully you'll consider giving this show a watch and if you do then I hope you enjoy it. :)
