More old fashioned than AnY, InuYasha also takes place in a fantasy setting with youkai rather than dragons. InuYasha was my gateway into manga and anime, and I love both greatly. Both have some involvement of betrayal from a past love, and how the main characters come to terms with that.

Rather than the couple having a 10cm difference, the love interests in Akatsuki no Yona (Hak and Yona) have a whopping 31cm difference, and it shows in the slower progression of their relationship. If you're a sucker for shoujo like I am, and want to see a story set with characters about the same age in a completely different time and place, definitely watch Akatsuki no Yona.

Both are neither your typical shoujo anime (based on an ongoing manga) with a redheaded leads. In both Akatsuki no Yona and Mahoutsukai our heroines are both gifted in a fantasy world, who learn and begin to form their own definitions of family and love. Both heroines share an underlying romance with tall, dark, deep-voiced males, as well as beautiful coming-of-age stories. They are also both REALLY underrated!
