As a filthy degenerate weeb here's my take on this show, but first a story:
I feel that every weeb eventually hits this stage in their weeaboo life.
The stage after the initial weeb honeymoon, where there were initially seemingly endless top tier anime to watch, where everything was once fresh, exciting and new. Now to fuel your consumption of chinese cartoons you begin to start watching season to season, and eventually there will come a time after doing this where you will start to lose that spark in being a fan - you will feel that you are running dry, that you have plucked many if
...
not most of the golden nuggets that the industry has to offer.
You'll then start wonder if you're burnt out on anime, as by now you will come to have seen the same shit over and over again, the same recycled ideas that were done a couple times well in the beginning be cloned in every single anime season a million times (fucking isekai), you'll start to see every sort of anime stereotype and cliche be beat to death in an endless sea of uninspired, mediocre pieces of nothing more but consumption material.
And you'll continue to do this, if you haven't given up and moved on already, all in hopes to find the few sparks of modern brilliance that made you fall in love with this publicly deplorable medium in the first place.
You will start to wonder more and more if you should, like many others before you, grow up and move on from anime.
This anime, and discovering others like it, are to me the weeb equivalent of finding water whilst stranded in a desert.
I have yet to type a word about this anime so far, in the interests of not having another one of my reviews be deleted I guess we should begin.
This highschool romcom/mystery anime can be summarised by familiar, but different. Whether it be story writing, characters, character interactions or plot progression, on the outset it is everything you have come to expect from modern teenage romance-driven anime, but the difference is here although you have the classic anime lineup and plot, it is presented in a clever, fresh and engaging way.
Although this anime can still be very much considered typical weeb bait (its literally a bunny girl as its poster and a virtually all female cast outside the protagonist, wow I wonder if I've seen this premise before!), it treats its audience like mature adults instead of just the usual filthy trash weeaboos that we very much are, and it's amazing in doing so.
Despite the whole story premise being around supernatural elements, the character interactions and story play out in a more believable way than many in its genre, even when compared to the best, and I truly am enjoying being along for the ride in a way that I haven't felt for a long, long time.
Man I really did not intend to write this much initially.......god I wish I could change my username so that I can nerd out like this, and write really long, overly serious reviews that no one really cares about on being passionate over 2d grills without the threat of some jerk searching my name and finding all of it through google............ alas woe is me.
