One of my favorite anime. I watched it before reading the book. I then ended up buying the book to learn the source material. It's a touching story that is beautifully presented. It does a good job in displaying the complexity of bonds, desire, revenge and how they can break down. No character is pure good or evil, they're beautifuly flawed.
It does get a bit scifi and anime-like in certain areas. So if you like the premis but youre looking for something more grounded to reality then check out the original novel "The Count of Monte Cristo". But beware, like many adaptions, it is
