".....They call it...being spirited away."
Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi, or Spirited Away is a story about Chihiro, a recently uprooted girl that through a series of events, goes on a fantastical and slightly terrifying journey, growing up along the way.
I'm just going to make this short and sweet, as you have plenty of other lovely reviews that go deep into this movie.
Spirited Away made me happy. The art style gave me an adorable bouncy ball feeling, and I loved all the characters. I was never bored, and it twisted the plot in just the right ways.
The movie really did spirit me away to a
...
different, happier place for a while. And that's why I adore it so much.
Final score: 10/10 for overall enjoyment, 4.5/5 for overall quality.

This show is a blast right from the first line. With the narrator's sarcasm and the main character being the equivalent of a Disney character bewildered by all the singing, you have 26 episodes of adorable rose petal strewn fun.
This series knows what it is, and behaves like a Lifetime movie that laughs at itself.
The story isn't all that plot driven, it focuses on developing the characters and displaying their antics. It has a ton of cute fluff and humor, ridiculous rich boys and a down to earth girl navigating high school and this fun little playground they have created.
The art isn't the ABSOLUTE BEST
...
I've ever seen, but I personally did like it, and it served its purpose. It was soft, fluttery, and shoujo-esque, with a pretty, flowery color scheme. The scenery never looked awkward and CGI like some sceneries look.
The sound is pretty much the same as the art in my opinion. It had a really cute opening, that gets you singing along pretty fast. It's flowery, pretty, and buttercream icing-y.
The characters were probably my absolute favorite part of the show. Starting out as hilarious overblown stereotypes of their own doing, through their adventures, interactions with Haruhi and each other, they begin to relearn themselves and become better people. Their sometimes-clashing personalities and sometimes-idiocy makes for some humorous and really sweet developments.
Overall, I loved this show. It made me laugh, cry, ooh and ahh, and was an easy show to sit back and enjoy some popcorn with.
If you're looking for fluffy fun with cute characters and some Flynn Ryder-esque confusion over Tamaki's (Rapunzel's) antics, you're in for a treat.
Final score: 10/10 for enjoyment, 4/5 stars for quality.

After finally finding out that there is indeed a space genre for anime, I decided to give Planetes a try. It looked promising, had a whole bunch of themes that were right up my alley, and it was a pretty decent size.
To be honest, it started off rather slow in terms of plot. For the first ten or so episodes, it's a light space romantic comedy, taking its time in introducing you to all the characters, letting you get to know everyone's ambitions, pasts, hopes, and dreams. No character is left out, you know and love the supporting characters as much as the main ones.
...
In the latter half of the series, it becomes a bit more plot driven. It gets deeper and you become extremely engaged in the story.
Overall, I loved this anime dearly, over the course of about three days it became my all time favorite. With humor, drama, lots of space, and a dash of adorable romance and non gibberish sci-fi, it will fly in and stick an INTO flag right on your heart.
Final score: 10/10 for enjoyment, 4.5/5 stars for quality.

Shelter is about an ordinary girl, who is trapped inside a virtual reality to save her from a destroyed universe. This 6 minute short barely gives us any story, relying in the music and visuals to make an impact on you. And I believe it succeeds. As a person who is extremely lonely in her world, and frequently tries to flee to a world of her own creation, this hit me like a truck. For those 6 minutes, I was Rin. Again, the creators only give us a bare minimum storyline. But I believe the beauty of this is that we are free to run
...
away with it. We can draw our own selves onto this short, much like Rin did in her surroundings. Sure, there's pretty much zero plot. But that's mostly what makes it a 10.
Final score 10/10 for enjoyment, 4.9/5 stars for quality.

Kimi no Na wa. In English, "Your Name'. This beautifully drawn anime chronicles the events that occur to two teens, living on opposing sides of the "train tracks" of life. Mitsuha, a small town girl who longs to feel the pulse of bustling Tokyo, and Takashi, a Tokyo boy who struggles to realize his dream of being an architect while juggling a part time job and school. Both experience a strange phenomenon that allows them to change bodies.
This starts a chain of events that will leave nothing quite like it was.
Story: 9
The story left a profound impact on me. It made me realize the
...
impact of the fragments of dreams we barely remember, and what power memories have. At times, I was a little unclear as to who was who, but it was quickly explained, leaving me enough time to understand and enjoy the story more because of it.
Art: 10
The art may be the best part of the whole film. It is breathtaking, mixing beautiful colors and imagery to create a stunning backdrop to the story. This may honestly be my favorite artwork in any anime that I have seen.
Sound: 10
There is a fantastic use of music and silence in this one. The exchanges of art and sound in this film helped complement everything in it. The sound was there to enhance the story, and it backed off to let the images do the talking. Wonderful, and completely deserving of a ten.
Character: 10
The characters were very well developed, and relatable. I felt sucked into their world, and I deeply cared about their fears and dreams. I wanted them to succeed, and I felt their triumphs and defeats. I felt like they could walk into my house at any time.
Overall: 10
It's no secret that I loved this from the opening scene. I loved the characters, the art, the music, everything that this had to offer. I loved the symbolism of the trains, I loved this wistful and bittersweetness of it all. It kept me laughing and crying, and left me stunned until the credits stopped rolling. I was trapped in this world that was put before me, and I never wanted to get out. Perfect score on this. Masterfully done.
