Going off of your post about Hitler and Ghandi, no one necessary 'has' to like them or 'love' them. I only wanted to state that people should give new things (anime) a try before saying that's it's bad because of 'certain' qualities that don't fit what the user wants. Although this is a matter of preference, I think every anime is good in their own way, you just have to have some sort of interest to watch it, and that interest could come from watching episode 1, or a PV, or from something else.
I personally don't watch Mechas, I don't hate them, nor do I dislike them. I just have more of an interest in other animes besides mechas as I believe that the action is somewhat obscured with robots. Note that I said 'believe', I haven't really watched a mecha yet :3. But I will eventually, I have my eyes on Suisei no Gargantia...
There's no specific reason that I chose to separate them i guess, but there are a few reasons why I like them separated.
1. The human brain likes to group things and it seems more organized to group them (to me at least).
2. This may not really make sense, but since the list is split in two it feels like I can add more characters without creating an obnoxiously long list.
3. It cuts out competition since, I don't know why, but I seem to choose the male characters over the female ones for some reason. As you can see by my list of ten where nine of them are male. I felt like I would get more females on the list if I added them separately.
