Here we have another Adachi-sensei's manga adaptation. The author obviously developed which resulted into such a splendid story. I'm far from being a baseball fan and understanding the mesmerizing charm of the game (which, to be honest, seems more of a boredom to me), yet it hadn't prevented me from enjoying what was going on a single time. The characters are bright, and living, and seeking, and loving. The series tell us a story of nearly entire life, showing how someone grows up, and someone breaks down, but then finds something to make them move forward. an important part here, especially in that marvellous Tsukishima-Kitamura line. There are lost of little trifles which turn out to be units from a single puzzle. One more thing the staff learns here is to quit in time: the story ends where it really should, thus it feels quite balanced. To me, there are way too many episodes here yet I re-watched it with no lesser a pleasure than I had for the first time. Oh, and I liked the music here, at times it was adorable.

An undescribably splendidl story, as clear as a dew drop. Only one forest, only two characters, only few meetings, yet the depicted world is so deep and versatile you can't help believing it. The film shows a magic world of yokai, how they deal with the world of people, how the worlds are different and what happens when the two worlds overlap. Music matches the picture perfectly well, it's such a pleasure to listen to it, it's a lovely symphony pleasing one's demanding ears. The story itself is quite simple and, frankly speaking, predictable, but the very moment it reaches its climax you are touched

to the point you just cannot stop your tears: it's just so beautiful, and sad, and beautiful, and joyful, and beautiful, and warm, and beautiful, and light, and beautiful, and sincere, and beautiful... A remarkable thing about the film is that it doesn't leave any bitter after-taste, perhaps because the end was clear from the very beginning, perhaps because the relationship between the two was so clear, perhaps because it doesn't really have an end. This a precious piece of art reminding how beautiful the surrounding world and life (and even death) itself is, how full of love every raindrop, every breeze is.

This is a really big and complicated story. I don't usually like anime about European culture (for the reason that European culture stops being actually European and becomes somewhat "Japanised") but that's not the case. That strange love of the Japanese cartoonists for orphans, experiments on personality, conspiracy, military men and crazy lunatics was finally put into a very decent, serious setting. The most dreadful thing about the whole story is that it's easy to imagine the events taking place in the real world (for those who are familiar with the history of World War II, at least). which should be clarified otherwise they might seem illogical but they do not spoil the general impression from the series. Mangaka's done really great job, no wonder manga is going to have a second birth (as a movie series this time; it will be fun to compare the anime and TV version).
One of the main lines in the series is a fairytale of a Check author (I couldn't manage to find out for sure whether it was real or not) - it is just as adorable as horrifiyng. I liked everything about it: the plot, the pictures, the way it was read by Nina. Yet I cannot imagine what kind of impact it could have had on me if I ever had a chance to read it in childhood (thus, I cannot compare the influence it had on the twinst... pity). And I cannot imagine what impression they could get from their mother's choice as I haven't got an answer to the question who the real monster is. As for monsters, I find it completely unnecessary to discribe the characters: many of them are very vivid and quite convincing (in fact, many of them can be called monsters in a way), but one of the most exciting personalities ever is Yohan himself, he alone (apart from everyone else) is worth watching the whole series, this creepy guy sends shivers up and down not only other characters', but also the viewers' spine.
