It is impossible to explain how Madoka is similar to Re:Zero without at least spoiling it's first major twist, and as it is of my opinion that Madoka is best experienced blind, I would highly recommend just taking my word for it that it's really good and just watching it, especially if you liked Re:Zero. Ok, still need more? You have been warned, here's the spoiler: Madoka isn't your little sister's cute and innocent magical girl show. Well, take that back, it is cute, but it isn't innocent. Much like Re:Zero, Madoka starts out all fun and games with the MC stuming across something incredible. In Re:Zero, Subaru finds himself in another world straight out of an RPG. In the case of Madoka, our eponymous heroine discovers the existance of magical girls, and is given the opportunity to become one. Much like Re:Zero however, further revelations reveal sinister truths that bring forth a spiral of suffering. Madoka offers a similar tale of suffering to Re:Zero (Re:Zero arguably rips off Madoka) with, in my opinion, much greater narrative depth. There are more clear similarities between Re:Zero and Madoka, but I can't get into them without MAJOR spoilers, so I won't get into them. Watch Madoka.
