I very badly wanted to enjoy this anime. I’ve been a sucker for isekai anime for the past few weeks and I really enjoy the concept. But of course, not every anime in a genre is going to be good. I’ve watched a lot of good ones and, in the hunt for any others that aren’t just downright terrible, I came across konosuba.
The first episode was okay. Interesting enough for me to want to keep watching. But as the story continued, I just kept waiting for it to get better. For that moment that would get me hooked and have me binge the anime all
...
the way through. That just didn’t happen with this anime.
Story: 5
This concept definitely puts a twist on isekai, without having an op mc with a harem of cute girls that borderline worship him. The introduction to this world is interesting and funny, but it’s also one of the best parts of this anime. Which says a lot. So the main character dies, gets sent to a fantasy-like world with a goddess, then what? They do manual labor. I get this is part of the plot, but I feel like it could have been done much better. Yet this small arc happens to be my favorite of the show. I just don’t enjoy the rest.
Art: 6
I do really enjoy the art style, even though it’s a pretty basic and common art style for anime nowadays, especially isekai or fantasy anime. With that said, there really isn’t anything special about it. It’s good, but definitely not unique or amazing.
Sound: 7
In my opinion, the absolute best part of this anime is the opening and ending songs. There are few shows where I don’t just immediately skip through the theme songs, and this is one of them. The music is very enjoyable and fits the concept of the show almost more than the actual storyline does.
Character: 3
This is what really ruined the show for me. The characters are mediocre and honestly quite annoying. Kazuma was fine at first, though definitely whining a lot. But then he started using his skill to steal panties. I’m sure it was meant to be funny, but it was just creepy and kind of obnoxious. I actually don’t mind Aqua, despite how much she complains. She can actually be funny sometimes, which is a nice break from the rest of the characters. Megumin isn’t terrible, just almost entirely useless and very annoying. Most of her personality surrounds the fact that she loves explosions. And her one and only skill is one explosion. A day. This would be a good character if she was funny, but she isn’t. Last and certainly least, Darkness. I cannot stand her at all. The other characters are mediocre, and would have landed this rating a bit more average. But she drags it all the way down. The whole masochist thing is just obnoxious. Every once and a while would be one thing, but it’s her entire personality. She reacts to the simplest things like someone is degrading her. Her entire presence in the show just makes me cringe.
Enjoyment: 4
I definitely wouldn’t say I like this anime, but I don’t hate it either. I did watch season one all the way through, but I don’t think it’s worth watching the second season.
Overall: 4
I don’t think I would recommend this anime to anyone, though I know many people love it. It’s on the lower side of average for me. To be completely honest, if the characters weren’t as terrible as they are, I would probably quite enjoy this anime, even with the lack of plot.
