This is my first review, so it might not be the best, bear with me.
Guilty Crown may seem like a Code Geass ripoff, as it does have similarities with it, but it's also unique on it's own. It does have mechas, the lead character getting some sort of a special power in a mysterious way. But it also has it's differences, and it's mostly in the characters and the development.I find it really enjoyable, and I would recommend it to anyone.
Story: 7
Guilty Crown has an interesting setting, an apocalyptic virus has attacked Japan, and there is GHQ that is basically controlling it and the country,
...
and of course there's a resistance. Shuu just gets caught up in all of it.
He randomly gets a mysterious power to get someone's void, a manifestation of someone's personality.
There are come cliché's yes, but honestly it isn't that bad. I haven't even personally noticed all of them the first time I watched it. (Only on the ending, which I will get to later).
I honestly really love the concept of the virus, as it really made me think twice while watching it. At one moment I was actually terrified of it and it's manifestation. It made the whole thing much more intense.
The bad points of the story: Too many things happened because of randomness. Characters would die if not for some lucky circumstances. And the ending wasn't what I was hoping for honestly. It's okay, but it could've been way better. Still, the story may have not been that original, but it was completely okay and enjoyable to follow. Also I'm not that satisfied with how some of the characters ended up. It could've been a lot better honestly.
Art: 10
The art is just plain amazing. You literally can't find any flaws in it. It perfectly captures the mood and the setting. Everything is in place as it should be.
Sound: 8
The sound is lovely and it captures the mood of the show quite well.
The first opening is quite nice and it introduced the show the way it should've. The second opening was okay.
The third one (from episode 13) was just pure AMAZING. The other two seem bad compared to this one, because this was amazing. I loved it, and even now I listen to it sometimes. Pure masterpiece I must say. It's just sad that the other two weren't this good. Oh well, can't have it all. Moving on.
Character: 9
I loved the characters. Well, most of them. Some characters are pretty interesting and I honestly expected more from them later on. Oh well. There are a few I'd like to mention seperately:
Shuu:
He's a classic student that has social anxiety. Like me. I connected with him deeply, and I understood everything he did. Well, almost everything (I wouldn't personally look at Gai the way he did). He had great development later on, after a certain event, and I really loved him. He was someone I could connect to, and that always makes the anime better.
Was good that for a change we had a main protagonist that isn't straight up good or that has ambition to be the best or anything. He is slowly going forward with it, and I have a feeling I'd be similar. That's why I love him so much.
Inori:
She is also a quite interesting character. Trying not to spoil anything, early you don't know that much about her, but later it's just amazing how she is able to feel and understand things. She is battling herself, and I can relate to her.
And a few side characters that caught my mind.
Daryl:
I expected so much more from you. Honestly he seems unimportant and just a mere minor villain, but his development really surprised me. I was just hoping he'd end differently.
Segai:
Loved this character. He was the mysterious man that had different agendas from the other villains. And I loved him. It's just a shame how he ended up, I hoped they would all end differently. But I fell in love with him.
I just really didn't like Gai and some of the school students. They were okay, but nothing more than that. That is what made the score 9.
Enjoyment: 10
I loved every single bit of it. It was amazing, I just had to watch episode after episode to find out what happens. The anime kept me entertained all the time. Wasn't a single second there I was bored.
Overall: 9
I really recommend this anime to everyone. Sure, it has it's flaws, but if you stop looking at the flaws, it's an amazing anime. And trust me, it's easy to ignore them if you connect to the characters like I did.
