The show is really a mixed bag. From the get-go I found it quite hard to believe Mia should be behaving in such a childish and immature way when she returned back to her 12 year-old self. She went through 3 years of horrible suffering imprisoned in horrible conditions before getting killed, yet she still acts like a kid who seems to be trying to avoid death by guillotine the same way a kid tries to avoid eating his vegetables. The beast designs are really ugly, like your typical bad CGI models. The character appearances are really a major step down from the manga and LN and are really disappointing, the frowns and smiles they make can be really nasty at times. Not often do I feel this way but the voice acting in this show really got on my nerves, especially for some of the characters and kept making me feel like skipping their lines. Do close friends really behave this way? Then I guess most anime couples aren't actually attached then. Awkwardness until the end, better scenarios could have been used to make the show more convincing. Ignoring the fact that their backstories aren't good foundations to build on, it's wild how they got themselves in their cohabitation situation from that. Even if I were to ignore how unrealistic the interactions are and assume they are normal, the way they started should not have led to 11 episodes of waiting. I do like the art of this one, and the plot is quite clear-cut, but the way it is done was not ideal.
Sure there's comedy and all throughout the series, but sometimes it feels like you got to slog your way through watching it. The character of the main girl is horrible. She goes through such unrealistic thought processes and behaves so awkardly. It just goes on and on and constantly reminds you how ridiculously cliche it is, it gets hard to gloss over it and find it amusing. It just gets frustrating seeing it go on and never really progress.
