Clannad: After Story...whenever I think of this anime, I find myself to be in a state of pure amazement. Anything less than perfect doesn't fully describe this anime.
Originality. As a continuation to the Clannad series one can expect wonders. This is one of the few anime that go beyond 'getting the girl' and show us what goes on after from the beginning to the end.
The story of Clannad: After Story is such an inspiring one; a boy who finds the one he can truly say he loves, and through the little 'hells' and tribulations he has to over come and succeed he becomes
...
a man and achieves the best reward; A happy family.
While watching this series, you find yourself feeling more and more connected to the main character Tomoya.
Beautiful. The scenery in Clannad: After Story is only one thing. Beautiful. Each scene is drawn to please the eye but it also makes every scene worth the watch and adds to the whole 'drama' aspect. For a happy moment that makes you warm; an open sun-drenched field with the family. For the moment your heart breaks in two and your tears are about to fall down your face; a snow covered city with grey skies. For the moment you feel like you have been faced with a miracle; a sky filled with lights of happiness making the night sky warm. This for me is what made this series pure bliss.
As a fellow musician myself, I hope and believe I can say that the music in Clannad: After Story was and still is sublime. As with the scenery you can not pin just the art or the characters by itself; each individual aspect was put together to make Clannad: After Story what it is. With that said, the music in this anime pulls at the hearstrings as much as possible. With the song Dango Daikazoku as a repeating concept of family throught the story as a whole. One song that really made a big statement was the song Farewell At The Foot Of The Hill. At one moment everything was set ablaze in my heart while this song and one scene went across the screen and made the long season of Clannad: After Story worth watching.
Clannad...in Irish the word Clannad means family. That's what this main cast represents; a family with the love for each other; a family who live for each other every day of their lives. Although the cast from the first season simmers down to a three person cast, I can't complain. Clannad was about the boy getting the girl along with all the silly antics that came with it throughout highschool. Clannad: After Story shows how that boy becomes a man and how the girl becomes a woman. Each character in the story (at least I personally feel) was well thought out. From a hard background; a true hard worker when he needs to be; we have Tomoya. From a good family; one that cares for others that go out of her way to help or not even; we are given Nagisa. Both together is an odd sight at first or maybe not but it goes to show there is a person for everyone. The little gift they get from above is an absolute joy too. I felt for that character from the beginning of her role in the series.
I thoroughly enjoyed this series. I can say this with a smile on my face. It was cute; it was devastating to the heart, it was radiant to the eye; it was beautiful to the soul; it was Clannad: After Story.
Clannad: After Story for me has been a journey. I haven't been much of an avid anime watcher (yet) but this story has been touching. I am truly moved by the whole plot and idea of a boy becoming a man. It was great from the first moment of the first episode to the dramatic and still amazing ending of the last. Happy moments, heavyhearted moments, and everything else. As I have said before, Clannad: After Story is a result of every aspect done what I feel as perfect. The inspiring story of life; The magnificent art that lives through feelings or rather shows feelings; the music that touches the soul; and the cast that struggles through hard ships and tragedies we all know and have experienced. Beautiful. Nothing less than perfect.
