This is a very unique show , not only in presentation but also in its content.
It has a very expressionistic art style, slow pacing and a heavy emphasis on characters and their dialogue.
It deals with themes such as the effect of technology on our lives and our relationships.
The show uses heavy moments very sparingly in order to increase the weight of them more , and it succeeds,
It also can get caught up in its artsyness and suffer from lack of production value occasionally.
The more important shots are visually appealing and detailed though.
This show is definitely not for everyone.
Patience is a prerequisite and this show is ... for thinking and not really for entertainment.
Lovers of character pieces, satire on modern life and technology and its effects on an ever growing society will probably like this.
People whose favorite anime is Gurren Lagann will probably be bored to tears.
The show can be a real mindfuck and its often hard to see where it’s all going , but I was nonetheless interested in what it had to offer.
In the end the show has interesting ideas , but the way it is executed slightly disappoints.
The show is not bad by any means , but a bit more coherence would’ve created the drive for the viewer to analyze the story, characters and themes more like what happened in evangelion.
I believe shows that want to express ideas and want to be artsy need to have a solid framework to build upon.
Lain lacks in exactly that aspect.

First off , I will score this movie on its own merit , and not how it compairs to the orignal series.
That would be both unfair and pointless.

This is the 3rd installment of the Evangelion rebuild movies.
The first one was a less nuanced rendition of the first few episodes of the show.
The second one was a 2 hour long fanserivce extravaganza

And now this one.
Right of the bat we see that we wont be getting a faithfull rendition to the show.
This is ok since a rehash would be boring anyway.
The new style seems way more focussed on one character and his current ordeal , rather than ... a multitude of characters and their past.
In a movie you dont have time or correct pacing to explore 10 characters to the extent of the show.
So they didn't.

This movie however explores the darker , psychological side of EVA , all be it with way less nuance.

The audio visual experience is top notch , better than 1.0 and way better than 2.0' style , which just became boring after 2 hours of robots and boobs.
The more lengthy dialogue heavy scenes , which take up more than half the movie are interesting and are a good change of pace from the very exiting action sequences.

The movie exhibits a bit of edgyness to shock its audience , this may be a bit cheap , but since they simply dont have time to explore all the characters and build up thension , they had very little choice.
It may be a weak spot , but it did not deter harshly from the overall experience.

The contents of the movie are completely original , nothing here is a retelling of the show.

This movie has shinji and koworu as the biggest characters , their dialogue exchanges are well written are dont suffer from the boredom and plain annoyance that 2.0's lengthy action scenes induced in me.

Characters like Rei and misato get little screentime , and when they do show , they dissapoint.
Mari at this point seems like shes here because she was in 2.0 , so she has to.

In the end , we have had a lot of facets of the original evangelion that were explored in the movies.

The only thing missing is character and backstory , 4.0 is our only hope for that.

Girls und Panzer

Cute girls doing cute things , with tanks !
But seriously , I usually hate entries in the QGDQT ‘’genre’’ so when I looked this anime up I was almost sure that the tank thing was just mindless pandering so they can sell more blue-rays.
How wrong I was.
The show may not be a masterpiece , but it’s an enjoyable and fun ride though a genuinely interesting fictional universe.
The characters are fun, decently written and are of the k-on variety , nothing wrong with that inherently.
What really caught me off guard is how serious the creators were with their tank idea.
Every tank is detailed perfectly ... and they did proper research involving what those tanks were like.
The animation of the combat scenes is also stellar, although slightly repetitive sometimes.
The point is , this is not simply a product but a passion project.
They actually cared about their show and the quality put into it.
In the end it’s a pretty great gem in between the ‘’moe moe loli’’ shitstorm that QGDQT usually is.

Interesting detective show that turns into a sex and gore fest really fast , in a postive way.
The show has a cool but sligtly cliche premise that the characters and the episodic time-skip nature of the show play off of.
The soundtrack is very good and the visuals are occasionally nice , but nothing special.
The enlgish voice acting is surprisingly good though.

It maybe slightly edgy in nature , but I cant deny I enjoyed it thoroughly.
A combination of boobs,story and violence , for some people it's perfect.

Chaos;Head

Chaos;head is terrible , plain and simple.
The characters are generic and shit , you will not even remember their names after the 12 episodes of crap that this show is.
The story starts out promising , with some mystery and some decent character interaction.
It , however, quickly becomes a shitty clusterfuck of horrendously stupid events , amazingly shit characters and music that resembles the sound of a 3 year old kid mashing his or her toy-piano.
(EXEPT FOR THE INTRO WHY DO YOU HAVE TO DO THIS TO ME)
The technobabble is by far the most annoying pile of crap I have ever had to listen to.
This show ... was (somehow) made by the creators of Steins;Gate.
It is therefore beyond me how they could’ve let such a catastrophe happen.
They apparently had no budget , no writers and about 2 weeks to make this.
Sometimes when a show is bad , you can just drop it immediately , but this show commits a blasphemous sin.
It seems like it could be decent/good in the first 3 episodes , then proceeds to take a gigantic dump over everything it has set up.
Do not watch , it’s not funny-bad , it’s just shit.
They aimed for the sky but fell flat on their faces.
At least the intro song is good …

Zankyou no Terror

This one started out very strong with amazing cinematography, an interesting plot and cool characters.
Unfortunately having only 11 episodes became its undoing.
As the series progressed character behavior became increasingly irrational, and the story went from dumb to dumber.
The big problem here is how the amazing soundtrack, cinematography, performances and some really great scenes contrast with extremely stupid story decisions and gigantic plot holes.
This exact problem partially led to the demise chaos;head (among other things).
It’s almost sad how good the soundtrack and small parts of this are.
In the end it’s consistently inconsistent.
I would say it’s worth watching for said scenes alone , they ... are truly marvelous.

What I liked most about it was the unexpected horror and terrifying parts , in most ‘’shonen esque’’ shows you usually don’t find such a level of horror and drama.
The only real flaws that are present is when the show puts on a little more drama than it can handle , and I find myself rolling my eyes instead of feeling something.
The show has AMAZING production quality , I’m talking the GDP of Belgium here.
The voice acting is quite good and every scene is lathered with quality and good direction.
The overall story is good , although a bit forceful on the drama.
Most of it ... hit the mark though.
The interesting thing is that it has no main character , it has about 5-10 characters that are followed in equal amounts.
This means that if you happen to not be fond of one character , there’s always someone else.
I found myself only disliking one character , but the others sure made up for it.
It is still a Japanese shonen , people shout out their hilarious special attack in Engrish and it has fights that last almost as long as Dragonball-Z’s infamous lengthy fight scenes.
All in all its an exciting battle royale that does not fail to entertain.

Mature dark and interesting seinen show that may lose a little steam during the middle , but then kicks it into high gear again with some stellar episodes.

Steins;Gate

This show managed to make a time travel story not fall flat on its face.
This alone deserves an award.
The complete first half of the show is just character building.
This makes it so that we actually give a shit about what happens to them ( looking at you , Chaos;Head)
The mystery is intriguing and the characters are all very defined and unique.
The show manages to create heavy emotional tension by handling it’s characters and character interaction very well.
The general dialogue is also godlike and completely steals the show.
The production quality is decent, the voice acting and music are definitely the best things about the overall ... quality.
This show is a good example of how to make a great sci-fi mystery story.
It may have some tropes and the consistency of the time travel and technology may be a little wonky , but the amazing story and interesting characters more than make up for it.

Neon Genesis Evangelion 1-24 + EOE

This is one of the most amazing productions I have ever watched, both from a technical and artistic standpoint.
The perfect example of the Gesamtkunstwerk.
Every single thing that made this show what it is somehow adds to it.
The unstable state of the director , the tight budget, it all shows and it all enhances the experience.
This show gets you in a ‘’Spec ops: the line’’ kind of way , it plays with your expectations and then pulls the rug out from under your feet.
Sporting an amazing cast of super complex characters that seem like stereotypes on the outside but quickly become ... some of the best written characters I have ever seen.
This is simply a masterpiece that needs careful attention and some thought to be put into it to be properly appreciated.
The intro is really funky and well made, I totally love it , the outro is a bit like the one from Bebop and it also really good.
The movie is visually impressive and even more expressionistic than the show, which I like.
And important side note is that the anime on a superficial level is also very appealing.
Great attention to detail and good sound design are among the things that accomplish this.
The show itself is heavy on the artistic and personal expression of the author and his feelings , the movie is almost completely just that.
This is very interesting to me , but some people might find it pretentious , or too distracting from actual content and entertainment.
Of which there is plenty I might add
