Ok. This one is going to be a tough cookie. :|
I will get this out of the way first. I may be slightly biased to One Piece but I have seen at least 70-100 episodes of other long series, Naruto and Bleach being 2 of them, I watched these 3 simultaneously, bad idea I know, but I was recommended Naruto and Bleach from a friend. So why did I watch One Piece you ask? Because no one else had is not the correct answer but pretty close. I wanted something for myself. A series I could devote my time to which I would enjoy. So
...
a year or more ago I started the long grind and as I write this review I am at episode 717 and have seen a lot of the movies, at least 6-7 of them.
This gets me onto my main point. I did say I watched all 3 simultaneously but that is kind of a lie. I watched Naruto and Bleach BEFORE I watched One Piece but dropped them for various reasons, Naruto got boring for me after 70 episodes (I know the second half is better and I will get around to it but smh) and Bleach was pretty good but I just couldn't get into it, I would get bored and stop then rewatch etc. (Like what happened with Fairy Tail).
This now brings me to One Piece. This is the only long show, or any show in general, that I have never gotten bored of. A whole year I have been addicted to it when most other shows I watch for a week, or possibly only a few days, and then drop. The beginning is good, not amazing, but good enough to get you into it but once you get past the beginning few episodes. DAMN. This shit gud.
Now I will get onto some stuff about the actual show.
Art- 7/10
It's Toei they can't draw for shit and this is the biggest, possibly only (for me), flaw in the show. Some episodes look really good and then some *cough*THEENTIREDRESSROSAARC*cough* don't look very go...od...
Moving on...
Story 8/10
Simple. It's so simple that you get used to it then BAM. Something happens that makes you cry into your pillow, which no other long show has done for me. Stuff that you thought was irrelevant makes you cry.
Simple, good, can't get confused *COUGH* but a little repetitive if you are into your story stuff. IF yuo are watching for entertainment you won't care. I mean look at Gintama it has one of the highest ratings ever but doesn't really have a story.
My fav arcs are...
1. Enies Lobby/Marineford
2. Punk Hazard
3. Fishman Island/Return To Sabaody Archipelago
My fav film is Strong World
Sound 10/10
Hmmm... Some will DEFINITELY disagree but One Piece openings, endings (The few we had) and background music all fits perfectly in there respected place. 'We Go' after the timeskip was a really nice one since they had been waiting 2 years to adventure and then a really loud and upbeat song came on to show that.
From the background music, which doesn't change much, to the openings they are all really good.
My favs are...
OP- 14/11
ED- 11/15
Characters 10/10
This is the backbones of the series. So many characters that I want to learn about. Backstory on pretty much anyone gives you an opportunity to award empathy to a villain whereas most series just tell you that this guy is bad and not to like them. One Piece let's you choose if they are right or wrong. All of the crew members are good. None are annoying and I love all of them. I don't want to say anymore just know that all of the characters are really good, apart from Buffalo FFFFFF, so yeah please take a look.
My favs are...
Luffy, Jinbe, Zoro and a lot of other people but this list would go on forever :(
Enjoyment 10/10
From the emotions to the comedy to the story to the character development to ASL :'(. I love it all. One Piece is the only series, for me, that can make me laugh, cry and want to know what happens next episode so bad I can't wait. Nothing else does this for me and that is why I am going to give One Piece a... (insert drum role)
