As someone who loves sports anime and has seen many series, I thought that Stars Align was a refreshing take on the sports anime genre. It had everything that you love in a sports anime, the friendship, the shared dedication, the excitement. But it also took a surprising approach when it came to depicting interpersonal relationships and family life that shocked me in a good way.
It told the story of real life circumstances that children face each day on top of just showing up to their sports club. I think it did a great job depicting the different ways that kids learn to cope under
...
stress, and shows the resilience of children living in the face of struggle. It may have felt weird switching between the shining joy of the games and the stark reality of the players, but as someone who experienced adverse childhood experiences, that's what reality was like. You would have these pockets of joy in between the suffering of your home life.
I loved how this gave the series a chance to show the players building trust in each other in a deeper way than just having a shared goal and burning youthful spirits. Especially the lgbt+ storyline. It is so rare to see it spoken about candidly in anime. That kind of representation matters to the kids growing up in Japan who rarely ever get to see themselves on screen as anything other than a slapstick joke.
To those who use their anime as an escape from reality, I understand why you may be disappointed. But I think this is a series that everyone should watch.

Ok I really enjoyed this show. It was funny and sweet and entertaining. 100% no regrets on watching this, I think more people should give this show a chance and I'll explain why some reviews have done this show an injustice. (feel free to skip to the end for a TLDR)
For those who claim shotacon, I'm ngl I was a fan of shotacon content when I was in my teens so I consumed my fair share and I can tell you right now, Shounen Maid is extremely tame and not BL coded as other reviews may lead you to believe. The main character and his
...
uncle do have a special relationship, that I too at first thought was questionable based on the way the show began, but after the first 3 episodes or so, I began to see the true machinations of the show.
I feel like people are too used to expecting weird, inappropriate content from Japan (for good reason, trust me I've seen it all) so they projected that expectation onto this anime. From what I saw, I honestly think that Madoka adored Chihiro as a reminder of his older sister who he lost. Its as if he had a second chance to be with her and Madoka would often say they were very similar. He seemed more like a doting, albeit immature, parental figure. He acts like a clingy okaa-san. On the other hand, there are many scenes where Chihiro recognizes the similarities between Madoka and his mother, further cementing this pseudo okaa-san role.
Even the birthday scene where I was expecting the worst as one reviewer said, "he dressed up as a cat and let Madoka pet him...." but everyone at the party dressed up as a cat too because it was a cat themed party. Later Chihiro did wear a separate cat costume that Madoka made him, which was basically just a kigurumi. Madoka often said he liked cute things and this was just one of those instances. Come on, kids dressed in cute costumes are cute! Maybe people are weirded out because Madoka is an effeminate man so they are forcing some kind of yaoi-esque narrative?
Another note on why some may have been misled is the fact Chihiro blushes a lot which I can be misinterpreted...I think we forget sometimes that blushing is used to show a variety of emotions like embarrassment or shyness....a blush doesn't automatically mean doki doki ya know? Overall I thought it added to the cutesy vibe of the anime.
TLDR; I think anime has given most people gutter brain and extreme hypervigilance. Anyone who sees a shounen ai ship here; that's on y'all, not the anime. Even after all the wild and questionable content I have consumed, I was able to see this anime for what it truly was: a sweet, heartwarming tale of found family and silly hijinks. I'm glad I didn't let the reviews scare me away. ほんとにおすすめです。

At first I really liked this manga. Had it at an 8, I was waiting for it to continue to wow me. I was sure it could get to a 9. I loved the novelty of it, I wasn't expecting the turns it was taking. The comedy was quirky and off kilter and I liked that a lot.
Around the halfway point though it started to fizzle out. It felt like there was no real goal or objective for the manga itself, and if there was one, it got so muddled and mixed up, the mangaka kept going in circles trying to figure out how to
...
put a finger on it.
If you're confused right now, so am I tbh. All the characters lost their meaning in more ways than one. Everything about this manga became completely unsatisfying. There's some relationships that I do not understand why the author wrote in other than to satisfy some wholly unnecessary and undesirable fetish. Blehhh.
The end made no sense. Something that's supposed to bring some kind of bullshit closure I guess? I'm convinced high ratings are from people who didn't finish this manga because what a crock of crap. What a steaming pile of disappointment.
I think what it had going in the first half may be worth a read, but just be prepared for the fallout. Queue the Mazzy Star here cause I've Been Let Down.

Unforgivably bland.
Trying to wrap my head around the reason ratings are so high? Maybe it feeds into people's fantasies about having a vampire nee-san following them around. I've speculated that the quality of anime has been on a downward spiral for years and the influx of newcomers do not have enough anime history under their belt to realize they're being fed slop.
The characters have no substance, just a copy paste personality similar to that of a hentai mc. There's literally nothing there.
The animation is ok at some points when they want the MC to come off as pretty I guess, but overall its pretty lazy.
...
As for design, more often than not the characters look hella cross-eyed and I just can't take it seriously. Like why are the eyes drawn so close together?
I skipped ahead sometimes over the MCs dreadfully boing interactions until a new character was introduced with the hopes that the dynamic improved. 3rd character equally boring. Blew my mind how painful it was to get through just 3 episodes. I literally do not have it in me to spend another second on this show.
The only good thing about this show is the soundtrack wasted on a garbage anime.
Guys at a certain point we have to stand up. If we keep giving shit high ratings than the industry will continue to give us shit. I again have learned the hard way that I cannot trust good ratings on anime that are post 2016
TLDR; It's gonna be a no from me dawg.

I had no idea what to expect here. I went in blind thinking cool! psychic powers! Boy was I not ready for what was in store. I am writing this fresh off the last episode so it may be a little soon for a review as I have not allowed sufficient time for all that has been layered upon me to stew. But I feel like I must write this now.
This anime was a wild ride. There is a slow build, a simmer. Something you sense brewing in the background, and you just can't shake the feeling that something is amiss. When the truth begins
...
to trickle in, it just doesn't stop. Layers upon layers peel away to reveal a fruit you were not expecting to find.
Each time I thought the show peaked, it continued to peak again and again. It had me in my feelings, it had me at the edge of my seat.
I may have to read the novel that preceded this. I don't think I'll be able to let this go for a while. A must watch for all of humanity.
めちゃめちゃおすすめです.
