"Boys Run the Riot" really deserves more love. It's a short story, only 4 volumes long, but so much contained within those volumes. As a transmasc myself this manga came to me at the perfect time. It helped me to accept something I've been trying to deny for so long and just this year have been learning to accept.
Seeing the life of a young trans man as they learn about themselves and find their place in the world was beautiful and I cried a few times. It's also incredibly interesting to see the start up of a fashion brand. You want these kids to

It's been a few years since I read this manga and I still mentally groan when I think about it.
It felt so very shallow and even insulting at times with how it handled gender, sexual orientation, etc. Which I will give it that it is from the early 2000's so things hadn't progressed to where they are now. Regardless, I don't think the characters were handled well and the whole read left a bad taste in my mouth. If none of this bothers you then you will probably enjoy the read. I would just caution anyone who might find the handling of the gender ... |
