Lucky Star has always been a popular anime. However, I truly cannot understand its popularity. It's written as a comedy, but the jokes narrow down to a single punchline that's delivered in a "here-it-is" manner. There are some very funny episodes, but many of them are labored and boring.
Story:
Each story is contained within the episode. There isn't much of a plot, just the everyday lives of the girl students. The lack of plot could easily be made up with fast-paced humor, but most of the jokes revolve around 4-5 minute segments that are unnecessary and obnoxious.
Art:
The art is a bit better than most,
...
but the style itself is sub par. It attempts to be almost chibi-styled, but comes across with a complete lack of anatomy instead. Still, the coloring and background details are astounding.
Sound:
The theme song is a generic high-pitch J-pop song. It is attempting to be ironic, especially in the lyrics, but the voice actresses singing of it grates on your eardrums. The music within the episodes is reasonable background music, but nothing is excellent, instead mostly average.
Character:
The characters are stereo-typical Japanese characters. A tsundere, a meganekko, a pervert...the secondary characters are so generic they can easily be swapped around.
Enjoyment:
I was mostly bored with this series, and so put it on hold. Each story is repetitive, and the characters are hard to empathize with.
Overall:
Lucky Star recieves a 6 because of its detailed artwork, lack of story, obnoxious sound, and flat characters.
