Shokugeki no Soma was an interesting journey for me. It tells the story of a young boy aspiring to be a chef that is worthy of the Yukihara diner, but thats not all it's about, it also tells the story of other individually unique chefs facing the same challenges using their own style of doing things.
Story-8/10
The story contained many elements of Shounen, but like some of the superb dishes in the show, they didn't let the heat of battle and the boil of blood dominate the mood of the whole show. Despite there being moments that got me pumped up, there were also

moments that reached out to me and situations where it was possible for me to relate to. I'm sure that most of us hate to lose like Soma and use it as a way to improve just like him but there are also times where you find it hard to pick yourself up or times where you feel like someone else is stealing the show completely. This anime makes room for all of those feelings, not much room for it but it is mentioned. Admittedly there wasn't enough episodes to let everyone shine as a person but it did very well to not put all the focus on Soma despite being a shounen series. I really enjoyed this show, personally it brings some drive back into my life and makes me fight harder for those who don't manage to shine as brightly.
Art-8/10
I really enjoyed the art in Shokugeki no Soma, having read the manga which had superbly detailed art especially when it came to the food, the anime's art did not disappoint. However the art just isn't as detailed on the food and the characters definitely looked cooler when it was enhanced by shading.
Sound-7/10
The first opening and ending theme songs were amazing, the opening song would always get me pumped up for each episode and the ending would leave me feeling warm in the heart making it feel like a good day just concluded, this was further enhanced by the animation for the ending theme where everyone repeated the same motions, it just somehow felt very welcoming. However i could not get myself to enjoy the second opening or ending song, not because it was bad in anyway but because it could not compare to the mood created by the first. The music used in the show was mediocre, doing what it needs to, making you feel fired up when they wanted you to but nothing really stood out.
Character-9/10
Each character was unique and begged to be noticed. Throughout the whole show, I was interested in everyone and not only Soma. The anime did well to ensure characters were 3D and not just support for the main characters. They all had a story to tell, however sadly was not told very well in the anime. I loved every character in the show and for the stories of the characters that were told, they all taught a good lesson and none were dull to say at the very least.
Overall-9/10
It's a great show, whether you're looking for heated battles, a slice of life, or inspiration, Shokugeki no Soma will help out in some way. Despite not knowing anything close to cooking, it managed to pull me in and leave me wanting more.
