I get it, hater guys, you pass your time on TV Tropes, then you come here and recognize tropes at us. But come on, poking fun at a work while being totally unfunny? Criticizing the writing and pace of the story when you're unable to keep me interested in your review for more than 30 seconds? Lame. But this enables me to be sassy, and I'm grateful for that.
As usual, I'll admit being the exact inverse of an expert in any of the fields touched by this, or any other, anime. I like most anime because I don't know where they fail miserably. So I

give Erased his thumb up with no hesitation and no shame.
Erased was on my watching list since forever. It was there because somebody recommended it. It's been there forever because hey what am I doing revealing my secret life to strangers on MAL? Stop it, me.
Satoru is a manga artist. He has an editor, so he must not be the failure a few guys here try to depict. I guess "mangaka" is a step down from "MAL reviewer" in some people's mind.
He's got SERIOUS déjà-vu syndrome, and memories he doesn't want to revisit. Until he's forced not only to revisit, but to relive his youth in order to save the world, or at least a small part of it. Which makes him save himself, in a way. Don't we all dream of going back and do that one thing, say that one word which would have changed our life? Unless you have no back to go to, obviously: if you're, say, 18, THIS is the moment to say that word, to do that thing. Mark my words: no matter how fully you live your life, you'll have A LOT to regret when you're 50.
Anyway. Of course that extra action carries an heavy weight, and opens a completely new can of worms, and not everything goes like it should, and there will be other extra actions to do. Hilarity, but mostly angst and distress, ensue. This series has funny moments, heartwarming moments, wtf moments, and a couple moments where you can see the pixels. There, I said it.
But seriously, one thing: I don't know how smart are kids nowadays, but I don't remember 10 years old children being that mature, and adults being that supportive of kids. It's something that I see often in anime: high schoolers completely ignored by the grown-ups, or small children treated with respect and given responsibilities. Must be one of those "tropes" everybody talks about.
Oh, and the author seems to actually write the story as he sees fit instead of relying on the wisdom of internet experts. This makes for a great story, as opposed to a boring documentary.
Yes, as with every fantasy story out there, Erased asks for the so-called "suspension of disbelief". If you are unable to suspend your disbelief for 23 minutes, you shouldn't watch TV, not even the news.
• Story: is it unoriginal? I don't know, it never occurred to me to have to time travel to save people. I wish (it would make me Okarin, which isn't a bad thing, mind you). Great story. 9/10
• Art: the lips. Adult women have funny lips, then they go back to regular lips in the old age. Uhm. The art is good bordering on very good, but I guess no anime nowadays has actual bad art or animation. I'm looking at you, Virtual-san. 7/10
• Sound. Did I say I'm no expert at anything? Well, I'm a little picky when it comes to sound. Here I was probably distracted by the (unoriginal) story or by the (terrible) art, because I didn't notice any bad audio. It's easy to go overboard in a mystery setup, with lots of tah-dahs and ka-zams and ooooohms. I'm not displeased, so it's an 8/10
• Characters: very, very relatable people in here. I am the mother, but I am the manager too, and Airi, and Kenya (what?) and obviously Satoru. I am NOT Kayo's mother and most of all I am NOT the murderer. Murdering people should be done with a grain of salt. Great characters. 9/10
• Enjoyment: one day I actually couldn't wait to come back home and see the next episode, so I watched it on the computer in my office while pretending to get stuff done. It's that good. 9/10
• Overall, an 8/10, but it could well be a 9. Let's settle on 8.5, see how normal I am?
But I shipped Satoru and Kayo, and they sunk my ship. Aw, come on.
Hey, welcome back, Airi. Shouldn't you be, like, 15 now? Never mind suspended, my disbelief is currently dead.

It's nice to see all the armchair "experts" who bullied kids away from the first two seasons coming back to explain us how one of the most successful anime of the century is actually poorly written, boring, and a threat to world peace.
Luckily, I am no expert at anything: I can freely judge anime by how much I like them, instead of forcing myself to find stuff I don't understand and call it "poor writing". If you liked the first season (and the second too, but you're too scared of the bullies to say it), you'll probably like Alicization. It weirded me out for a couple ... |
